I have a few 1 year old hens and will be adding a few new chicks this year. Once I get them used to each other and all in the same coop how do ya keep the young birds from eating the layer feed?
I was on vacation for a week and had someone keeping an eye on my girls for me. When I got home today I found my first two eggs!!! They eather came from my barred rock or my BO. But the shells were very soft. So I switched them to a layer feed. How long will it take for the shells to start to...
My BO and barred rock are 16 weeks old this week. And my black austalorps are 12 weeks old. When should I switch to egg layer? And will it harm the younger girls if they get it when I switch the older girls over?
My wife let the girls out this morn and in there rush one got pushed off the ramp and landed funny. Now she can't hardly stand and she drags one wing. And when she does stand she'll just tip over.
Dies it sound like a broken leg or something??
This was sold to me as a pure barred rock. It obviously isn't. It's 12 weeks old now. Any guesses on what it might be mixed with and if its hen or roo?? Thanks
My 6 chicks ( 6-9 wks old) will go in the coop before sunset and get up to there roosts, but they are loud! They sound frantic and scared. But they just get in there spots and go to sleep. Is this normal?
I'm pretty posative I all ready know the answer to this question but the whole family lives this chick so much we hate to see it go. But we can't have a rooster. It's a 10 week old sexlink. Any chance any one disagrees that it's a roo??
I have 1 BO 10 wks old, 1 BR 10 weeks old,and 1 sexlink roo (soon to be leaving us) also 10 weeks old. Two days ago I added 3 black austalorps 6 wks old. They seam to get along ok. Not great but no blood shed. Yesterday wile they were outside I added nest boxes in the coop. I thought they would...
I took and drilled some holes in the top of a nesquik container and filled it with DE. It works great fir dusting the nest boxes and the corners of the coop.
I added 3 black australorps in with my 3 older girls. I have a buff Orpington, a barred rock, and a black sex link about 9 weeks old. The new girls are 6 weeks old and quit a bit smaller. They did ok out in the run all day. A little pecking but they had plenty of room to run away. I'm worried...
I'm picking up 2 BA's this weekend and I want to make sure I'm getting girls. They are 6 weeks old. Are there any specific tell tail signs I should be looking for? Thanks for any advice
I have 2 8 week old BR's and 1 8 week old buff and 4 10 week old silkies. The 3 bigger girls will use the roosts during the day just fine but at night they all huddle up on the floor. Should I put them on the roosts for a few nights and see if they figure it out or will they just figure it out...
My dorky chicks don't seam to be smart enough to come in out of the rain. Is there any harm in letting them be out in the rain? They really seam to enjoy it and I'd hate to keep them locked up on rainy days.
I added a shallow tray full of play sand in the coop today so they could dust bath. They all just stand in it and peck at it. Do I need to worry they might get to much grit??
