    Sq ft per call duck

What is the recommended sq footage per call duck in a crate? We have coyote, raccoon, and possum problems so all birds are kept in crates 24/7 in a barn. What is the minimum sq footage per call duck in a crate if they are being kept there 24/7? The crates are 3' x 4' and are 4' high as well.

Could chickens get through 3x3 woven wire

This is more of a hypothetical question...since I do not plan on fencing in my birds with 3x3 wire fence. However I am getting about an acre and a half fenced in with 3x3 woven wire for goats and was wondering if down the road chickens could go in there. I would think that 3x3 could contain them...

    Popping Noise When chicks cheep

When my chicks are cheeping, there is a faint, yet very noticeable popping/cracking noise in their chest. I have no idea what it could be. My other chicks had this then they outgrew it. What could this be? Any suggestions?

Vaccinating chicks for Marek's at 3 days

This may seem like a stupid question, but is it ok to vaccinate chicks for Marek's at 3 days old instead of a day old? I totally forgot to order the vaccine and was going to get it sent overnight but it is the weekend and they dont ship until Monday.....meaning it won't get here until Tuesday...

    Bull Calf Behavior

I have a quick question regarding bull calf behavior. Whenever I go in this pen with this guy I get the feeling like he is not happy with me in there. He is a 6 month old, probably around 300 lb guernsey, not fixed yet. Today when I went in the pen he was following me around, he would go and run...

Incubating eggs from pullets wormed with Valbazen

Can anyone tell me if it is safe to incubate eggs laid by pullets recently wormed with Valbazen? I know that it is not technically approved for use in poultry, but has been shown to be very effective as a broad spectrum wormer for poultry. So I decided to worm my flock now before spring just to...

Stunted Goat growth rate in small pens?

I have a Boer doeling about 9 months old I am conditioning for show. I am keeping her in a pen that is about 12 x 30, or 360 sq ft. I also have a buddy in there for her to keep her company. I have larger pens where I can put her but I don't want to keep her with the other goats for 2 main...

    Hard scab on earlobe

Anyone know what this could be?? And what causes it? I've never seen anything like it. It was on the lobe of one of my pullets. Squeezed it and the scab popped out, leaving a gaping hole. I'm thinking of using some neosporin or some antibiotic. Is it contagious? Never seen anything like it.

    How does Fowl Pox happen?

A couple weeks ago I brought home a cockerel from somebody. Bear in mind, my entire flock is disease free, no mites, ticks, lice, any of that. Never had a case of any of the above ever. So, about a week after I found marks on his comb that I am sure is Fowl Pox. My question is, did this come...

    Moving a chicken coop

Hi, I need some advice regarding moving a chicken coop about 200 feet. It is a smallish coop, 3 x 4, but weighs about 500 lbs. I am going to have it delivered on a trailer, but after that, it still needs to move 200 feet. It isn't really an option to drive back there since it is a yard. How do...

    Shelter

Hello, I am setting up a new area for my Welsummers and am looking for some ideas on shelter. I am using a 6x10 dog kennel set up on a cement slab by the barn. I do not have a coop or any inside area for it yet. I am not looking to spend too much money, I see coops for sale that are $700-$800...

Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Cockerel in New Jersey

One of my blue laced red wyandottes turned out to be a cockerel. He is a black blue laced red wyandotte. Not to be confused with a golden laced wyandotte, since although similar in appearance, they can be crossed with blue and splash blue laced red wyandottes to create blue and splash. Here is...

What is wrong with my hen?

Today, when I inspected my buff Orpington hen, I noticed she had a bloody ball coming out of her vent. I touched it, and it was soft, and pus came out. She is acting fine, but I am still worried. Any thoughts?

    Evieshotchicks Experience

I would like to make a few comments on Evieshotchicks in Cookstown, NJ. I don't ever really write bad reviews for anything, but I feel the need to write something about this place given how horrible my experience has been. I really encourage everyone to STAY AWAY FROM EVIESHOTCHICKS. Let me...

    Rooster bloody wing

Hi, I am just curious as to what is causing this roo to have a bloody wing. There are no other roosters in with him that he could be fighting with, and they are in an enclosed run so no hawk or predator could've done it. I attatched a pic.
