    Supplement lighting during winter

I've heard mixed reviews on using supplement lighting during the winter. Is it harmful and does it cut into their laying life span? Been told chicken will lay 6-7 years without, but only about 2.5 with light. I want to do what's best for my flock. I use lights, same as for a brooder to help heat...

    Better egg layer

Looking to add a few pullets to my flock. I'm torn between Australorps and Ameruacanas. I have 1 ameruacana, she's been laying about a month with no regularity. Not sure this is the breed or the weather. I want a durable good layer. Which breed is best?

Comb is rather large and bright red, saddle feather are long and pointy, but no tail plumage, no attempts at crowing, or...

If and when can I expect regular laying

I purchased 4 RIR from a gentleman thinning his flock, was told they were 1-2 years old and good layers. I have had them since July 4 and gotten 6-7 eggs total. Someone told me it may take a while for them to adjust to their new home possibly as long as a few months. is this true? A bit...
