Mixed Rooster -- What is it?

I bought this guy as a 2-day old chick and watched him transform into this beautiful rooster. He came from a farm where the chickens all intermingle and end up hatching in all of these great combinations. Does anyone have any idea what breeds this guy might consist of? Thanks in advance for...

What do I do after hen hatches her eggs?

I have a hen setting on her own eggs, which are due to hatch around June 9. This is my first time dealing with this. After the chicks hatch, will the mother lead them to water and food, or do I need to do this? I've incubated my own eggs before and was responsible for this step, but I don't know...

Can you put different eggs in the bator at different times?

I have hens that lay eggs and I've thought about collecting the eggs to put in an incubator, since they won't sit on them. If I put 4 eggs in the bator, for instance, then 2 or 3 days later put 4 more eggs in, is this okay? I know the eggs need 21 days to develop, so just wondering how to do...

4 wk old chick's eye sealing shut -- Advice?

I have a chick that had an eye that was real swollen one day when it was around 2 weeks old. I tried putting warm tea on it, advice I'd gotten from this message board. I also tried terramycin once. Neither completely cleared the problem. Now, a couple weeks later, the chick's eyelid seems to be...

White chick with some black specks...What is this?

I also posted this on the Baby Chicks thread, but realized later this might be a better place.... I just got a chick from a farm that free ranges their chickens, so it is likely not a purebred. Fine by me. However, I can't find any photos of this chick anywhere to determine what type of chicken...

White chick with just a few black speckles...What is it?

I just got a chick from a farm that free ranges their chickens, so it is likely not a purebred. Fine by me. However, I can't find any photos of this chick anywhere to determine what type of chicken it will most resemble when it matures. I don't have a photo to post at the moment, so thought I'd...

First time candler -- very unconfident about judging

I just candled for the first time tonight, and I'm uncertain about 5 eggs. They are dark in the top half and clear at the bottom. Darkness seems to go around the egg in a straight horizontal line. So, I don't think these eggs have life in them, but I'm not sure. I saw one egg with the chick...
