I just had to share...another successful hatch!
1.5 years ago I ordered 14 more pullets. One ended up being a rooster!
So we kept him and now I have had 3 rounds of hatchlings. One went broody on my sons birthday and I let her sit on them.
This was the most successful hatch yet. 5 so far, one...
i have a broody hen, hatching chix as i type. this is my 3 round of babies i have let hatch.
each hatch has produced at least one rooster. i currently have two grown rooster and 2 roos.
i am sure i will have another roo in this mix.
i do not need/want that many. 2-3 is plenty. they are 'muts'...
I moved a broody hen to a differnt coop by herself as the baby chix will hatch in 11 days.
However, she is not wanting to sit back on her eggs. I had to move her during the day ( 11am).
Will she eventually go back to sitting?
Thanks for the help.

Has anyone ever done this cross breeding?
I did and got two and also crossed the sussex roo with my welsummer.
3 adorable chicks. Waiting to see if hey are pullets or Roos. They are two weeks old.
my husband had to do it.
wow...never thought i would be this upset.
had to help it hatch a few days ago...could not stand, had hip problem too.
crying!!!
i was ok when others died during hatch...but not ok when i am the one deciding to put down.
3 chicks hatched successfully.
one chick was stuck; as the membranes were dried out.
helped it out, but now after 2 days...it can't stand.
hip area even looks deformed.
i have tried to hold and let legs go straight...can't even do that.
chick just lays there.
advise???!!!
new at this...let mama hen go broody.
they are hatching now.
2 successful
2 were hatched, but flattened
1 has shell gone, but membrane around it.
i am letting mother nature take it course; however, i feel like it need to help the chick out.
thoughts???
first time letting a hen go broody.
one chick hatched great.
found 2 that have been flattened.
not sure if hen is smothering them and then sitting or what.
anyone else have this issue?
a chick just hatched from my broody hen.
however, the other few have not yet.
when i went to check on the others, she started pecking the little chick.
it went back under her. there is food and water nearby.
do i need to help the chick see the food/water?
will mama peck the chick to death...
I have a hen that went broody around April 10...I have placed other eggs under her for a total of 8. Not sure if they are fertile or not. Have not candled them. They should all hatch within a few days of each other.
I have her in the same coop as other hens and 1 rooster. Will probably set up...
i have a few eggs i cannot figure out which girls are laying them.
i have on cream color egg always on the ground under the nestbox.
it is a decent size egg - smaller, but still good size. never thought unitl now it could come from my crested polish.
my cuckoo maran has been laying 'regular' brown eggs. they are even on the lighter side.
will they get darker with age?
thought they were suppose to lay 'chocolate' eggs!
i have an injured hen. will isolating her for a week throw off the balance once she is back with the other chickens?
she is bleeding, so i do not want the others going at her.
so i just went to the coop and noticed my white leghorn had blood all over her.
never been a probelm - some feather picking on others but never her!
washed her off and put her in another coop to recover by herself for a week or so.
by the eyes and tip of her comb was bleeding bad!
not sure...
I just noticed one of my hens (she will be 3 this spring) was all hunched over and walking funny.
almost walking like she is old or bow legged. under her vent and between her legs are warm and swollen.
checked her vent...it is not clogged.
advise???
the last few weeks i have noticed my EE breast bone is 'wobbly'. it is larger than normal on one side and protrudes like nothing i have seen. was thinking swollen crop, but it is still the same after a few weeks.
any ideas?
before it was just a few chickens missing feathers...now it is even more. they are missing by the tail feathers.
i have never seen this before.
i have a few chix low in the pecking order whose butt feathers are gone. however, i have never seen it on top by the tail feathers.
i know it is a...
a month ago i introduced 13 new pullets and one roo to my 8 existing hens. i find the 8 hens inside all day. they used to NEVER be in the coop until now.
they all are getting along well. however, i feel like the old hens are protecting the coop/water/food and not wanting to share.
any thoughts?
