PLEASE HELP...not sure what is wrong!!!

I just noticed one of my hens (she will be 3 this spring) was all hunched over and walking funny.
almost walking like she is old or bow legged. under her vent and between her legs are warm and swollen.
checked her vent...it is not clogged.

advise???

Egg Bound or EYP probably.
With my egg bound hen I gave her a bath in very warm water for 20 mins. I put sunflower oil around the inside of her vent to help the egg to pass. The warm bath relaxes her to try and help her pass the egg. I then dried her off very gently on a low heat with a hairdryer and then put her in a dark warm place and within 20 mins she had passed two eggs.
Problem is it could be EYP that causes a swollen abdomen and the funny walk. Hope it isent Keeping fingers crossed for you

OIL up a finger and put it all the way in. You may have to go deep to check for an egg. Sounds like it. If you feel one, you will most likely get alot of instructions from everyone!

Does she walk funny, like a penguin, or have a bowling ball look to her? Legs spread far apart?

Not too much. If you keep her in a dark spot, to discourage egg production, and sometimes antibiotics...

here is some info on it. A lot of ex battery hens get it in the UK. Some can live with it for quiet a while it really depends if it goes septic or not. And obviously it does stop them laying so it depends if they are pets or not as to what you do about it. All my hens are pets so they get treated.
