Calling all Coops! I wanted to be sure everyone in the Phoenix area was aware of this years Tour de Coops 2010 sponsored by the Phoenix Permaculture Guild. Tour de Coops is currently looking for volunteers who are willing to open their yards up for the tour. This is your chance to show off...
I recently added to two new chickens (1- EE, 1- Speckeled Sussex) to my existing flock (2 BR, 1 RIR, 1 Welssie). The older gals are about 10 months old. The new gals are 4 and 5 months old and get pushed around a bit by the older girls. So my question is - do you think the new girls will lay...
My BR's egg shells have recently faded from their normal color to nearly white. One other odd event-last week my daughter picked her up and she dropped an egg. But the egg had no shell.
Does this have anything to do with the egg color?
I bought four 5 week old child on Saturday and two 5 day old chicks today. One of the 5 week olds is hammering the poor little guys. I assume this is normal, but wanted to see if they should be separated.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Today I noticed some - not many - brown bugs in my feed container. They are about the size of an ant. Are these bo weevils? Are the OK for the chickens to eat? Has my feed gone bad?
Thanks!
Hey all. I have a small flock of four 5-month old hens who recently started laying. But, I'd like to add one...maybe two more to the flock.
I'd prefer not to go through the brooding phase again and have a lead on some 12-week olds for sale. I'm a bit concerned about the existing flock not...
Hey. Chicken newbie here. Two of my BR's started laying about 5 days ago, skipped a day and now nothing. Is it usual for them to lay every few days once they start? Or should they be laying more regularly?
Thanks!
Hey all. Chicken newbie here. Just finished my first coop...all before the 110 degree heat here in Phoenix. So, needless to say, I'm stoked. Although, the chickens were a bit confused by the rearrangement of their roost, but they'll get over it...I hope.
I think it has just enough shade...
Hola chicken officianados. I'm pretty new to this chicken thing and was wondering when it's safe to turn off the heat lamp.
I'm in Phoenix, AZ, so we have pretty decent weather right now. mid 80's to low 50's at night. The chickens are just at the 2 month mark and seem to have most of their...
Hey everyone. I am looking for info on organic ways to kill of loads of flys.
The flys aren't due to the chickens - unseasonable weather seems to have let them bloom like crazy. Not to sure where they are coming from. Anyway, I am afraid to spray the yard with standard pesticides because I...
