    What is this bone???

We butchered our very first turkey today. And something I've never seen in any pics OR from a store bought turkey is this bone sticking out of his breast. Can anybody tell me what or why? He was healthy and active. Always a good eater. Wasn't noticeable until the feathers came off.

Can anyone help me sex these turkeys??

We are new to this, but these guys are 10 months old and we were sure it was 2 hens and 2 toms. But their showy behaviour lately and what appears to be fighting....makes us question if they are all toms!! According to everything we've read anyway. I'm 100% the one on the right is a tom, the...

    Ermines!! My poor chickens!

We had 2 white silkie Roos that we separated from our flock because they were being picked on. Their temporary coop was exactly that...temporary! While we built a new coop separating Roos. They were sweet gentle Roos these guys. Until yesterday morning when we went to let them out....there they...

My rooster is a psychopath rapist...

We have a buff orpington roo that is very quiet. He NEVER goes outside. And so I thought this weekend I would sit for hours on end waiting to see why. I assumed he was being pecked on and maybe was bottom of the pecking order. My heart went out to the poor guy. Like he was the victim of bullying...

    I have to ask....

Why doni see so many people selling laying hens and roosters on sites like kijiji? I'm a noob so maybe I will some day too but....usually the reason is "downsizing". But it makes me wonder, if you're downsizing, wouldn't you feed your family with them instead?

Hen ready to lay?? Or is this a roo in disguise?

I have a buff orpington 23 weeks old. I'm new so I don't know how to sex chickens....but it can tell what all of mine are except this one just by behaviours. And well....the dead give away of the crowing! But this one boggles me. Lately it has been laying around almost like I read how they start...

Missing feathers and lumps on neck

Is this normal?? Forgive me as I'm a newbie! But our 6/7 week old bourbon red has lost neck feathers and has 2 bumps on his neck. We dusted for mites and lice as precautionary...but what the heck? He's healthy otherwise![/IMG][/IMG][/IMG]

3 week old chick with a lump??

We hatched a white chantecler and he's 3 weeks old. He hasn't been growing really, but tonight notice he has a big hard lump on the breast area. Ideas what it could be? Maybe has something to do with no growing? He peeps loud when you touch it...but he does that regardless of where you touch...

    3 week old silkies fighting?

I have 2 silkies that are 3 weeks old and tonight they were throwing their bodies at each other and what appeared to be fighting. It was quite funny to watch them walk circles around each other however made me wonder if they are cockerels and maybe I should separate them? Is it normal for them...

Newbie homesteader...set my first eggs today!

I've been reading this forum for months, and today I finally set my first eggs (and joined as a member!)...in a homemade incubator. I'm in Alberta, Canada and we recently purchased 127.4 acres of raw virgin land. We are literally doing a 180 degree turn from city slickers to homesteaders. We've...
