Hi everyone, . I happened to stop by my local feed store and they had "retired"gold comet and RIR hens. (I assume from an egg operation because all their beaks are dubbed).
I figured to be nice, I'd give them a home and maybe get a few eggs too.
(I also picked up 6 more hens from a neighbor...
I purchased a pair of pure blue wheaton ameraucauna hens at an auction a few months ago and paired them with my EE rooster in hopes of the offspring being high quality easter eggers. I kept them in a breeding pen together for about a month before the hens started to lay. about twice a week i...

Since my neighbors dogs decided to cull my laying flock, i decided it was time to break out the incubator.
Im setting 40 eggs from my "backyard mix" .

I often read it's difficult to get cornish x to breeding age( I hadone live 4 years) and if you do they have trouble breeding due to size.
And if they do successfully breed the offspring do not breed true because the parents are a 4th generation hybrid.
Anyone have pics of such offspring...
I have 22 chick's in a 4'x3' brooder box I made with a wire floor and a pull out tray. So they are not lying and foraging in their own filth. I change water daily and fill feeder medicated feed. Yesterday I noticed some red gummy looking poop and now I'm concerned about cocci? The stool looked...
I just ordered some O-Shamo eggs. They are supposed to be the true 3' tall birds. We'll see. I wanted them because they are Different. Look like dinosaurs.
This is the first time I've hatched eggs using an egg turner.
I understand on day 19 I should shut the Turner off so the chicks can position themselves to hatch and plug the holes to boost humidity.
My question is, should I remove the egg Turner and set the eggs on the wire our just shut it...
After having 4 temperature spikes up to 102 in my farm innovations incubator, I'm fed up. It has cooked most of my eggs! I found a hovabator digital with circulated air fan.
Does anyone have experience with this incubator? Is it worth the money?
Thanks
After countless hours of research and hitting several dead ends, I decided to order some dark cornish from mypetchicken.com

Hopefully the...

hello everyone,
i am looking into several breeds of chickens to start my own backyard flock and i would like to include some dark cornish. i have researched them extensively and am learning that different "strains" from different hatcheries produce different results. my goal for the cornish is a...
Hi I'm not new to chickens but it's been several years since I've had birds. I am interested in a few different breeds but the amieracaunas and Easter egger catch my eye the most. I love their blue and green eggs. I purchased some EE years ago from my local feed store. One laid blue eggs, one...
