    Rats

Is there an effective way to deal with rats? My husband told me we had a couple. Well last night I went out to place some fertilized eggs under my broody and there were more than a couple! I've had some mysterious chicken deaths as well and I'm wondering if the rats weren't a factor!

    Will she stay broody?

I just ordered my first set of hatching eggs because I have a hen who is broody. The earliest I could get the eggs was May 17th-19th. My question is will she still be broody by then? And is there a way to keep her broody?

First time Hatching with Broody - Need Advice!

I have an Orpington who has wanted to be a Mom forever so I decided this year we will finally give her her wish. I'm trying to study up on how to hatch with a broody Momma but a lot of what I'm finding is hatching with an incubator. Can someone point me in the right direction for hatching with a...

Sold to me as a Speckled Sussex, what are they?

The black hens in the pictures were sold to me as Speckled Sussex but I don't think they are. I'm wondering if they're Barnevelders or maybe something else? Thanks so much!

    What breed?

So the lady that sold me this little girl said she was a Buff Brahma (it was nighttime I didn't get a good look), well I know THAT'S not true, lol So what is she? She has orange-ish legs so I don't think Easter Egger. What are your thoughts?

What's wrong? Why can't she poop right? (Warning poop picture)

So one of my chicks is having a difficult time going to the bathroom but I really don't think it's pasty butt. I cleaned her butt off and she just keeps chirping loudly whenever she tries going to the bathroom. I also don't think she's constipated because the poop isn't stiff or hard. The vent...

    Managing Moles without hurting Chickens?

We've got moles and unfortunately they don't seem too frightened by our chickens so how can I get rid of them without putting something out that could potentially harm the chickens? TIA!

    Chicken Poop Pic - Normal?

I have one chicken who is being hen pecked, I also noticed she was sneezing the other day and then I found this yesterday. Not sure if it's from the same chicken or not. It was the best pic I could get but there were 2 droppings that seemed to have a reddish streak in them, looks kinda orange in...

    Buff Brahmas?

I got these just yesterday and the lady said they were both Buff Brahmas one just has feathered feet and one doesn't. They just look really different so I wanted a second or third opinion. She also said they were 2-3 weeks but they seem very small to me. What do you guys think? They're the 2...

Incorporating older birds into my current flock

So I have heard that if you bring older birds into your current flock that the best way to do it is at night & to just place them in the coop with the others. I've also heard that it works because it's based on whether or not the new birds smell like the flock. So I'm wondering if it would help...

Different ages together with different feed?

So I'm wondering with having different ages of chickens together and different kinds of feed available for all will they eat the wrong thing or will they know which is for them? Sorry if this is a dumb question. TIA!

8 weeks olds with 1-2 week olds?

So I have had to do some searching for the breeds I want and have found them but not all of the are the same age. Will I be able to keep 3 - 8 week old chicks with some that are around 1-2 weeks old or will the younger ones get picked on or worse? TIA!

    Hen pecked or sick?

This is one of my Welsummers who I assumed was being hen pecked. Her eye was like this a week ago and after applying non-medicated neosporin for the last week it is about halfway open now. She also has a good bald spot on her back (we have no roosters). I've been applying some medicine on her...

Help! - Eye is closed, what's wrong?

This is my first flock of chickens. We've had them since March and this is the first time I've had any kind of ailment with them. I have 6 but only one has one of her eyes almost shut. It's not swollen just almost closed all the way. Today was the second day it was like that. I gave her some ACV...

    Timeframe for new pullet acceptance?

So how long would you say it takes for a flock to get used to a new chicken? I had a rooster and swapped him out for a pullet the same age but she is much smaller since she was a free range chicken and the other 5 have started to get used to her, I should say they tolerate her but she's...

    Does my pullet look healthy?

I actually have 2 questions. In the picture are 2 buff orpingtons both are supposed to be pullets. I think one may be a roo and the other one looks kind of sickly to me. I'm not sure if it's because the others waddles and crown are much more red or if she is in fact sick. Thoughts anyone?

Can I feed 7 weeks old grower feed?

I have 6 chicks that will be 8 weeks next Monday and I have just about run out of crumbles. I was wondering if it was alright to start them on grower feed slightly early? And also do I need grit with grower feed or is that introduced when they get to the layer feed? And what do you all use for...

When to use the heat lamp

I have 6 chicks that will be 5 weeks tomorrow and from what I've read means they should be fully feathered and not need the heat lamp. However it has been getting down to upper 30's at night occasionally. They are in my kitchen at the moment but will soon be evicted to live in their new coop. So...
