Hen or Roo...that is the question.

Ok I am still unsure of the sex of this EE. I was told girl when I got it as a chick, then I was told boy about a month ago. Now I'm back to not knowing. It is 14 weeks old is not crowing or even attempting to crow. It makes clucking sounds and peeps. "He" was supposed to go to a new home this...

day old with bulging eye HELP!

HELP needed! I just got my day old chicks order and my Salmon Faverolle has a buldging eyeball. The eyeball itself is huge. She is a bit wobbly too. She is attempting to eat but I haven't seen her drink. I don't know if this could be caused by being pecked in the eye by one of the other chicks...

    Drake is attacking younger ducks

My 21 week mallard drake attacks my 11 week runner/kc mixes every time they are around each other. One minute he seems fine and the next he is mean. They are cooped separately and I frequently let them forage together with supervision. I need to get them to get along because I am rehoming my...

    City Ordinance interpretation question

My city ordinance says that we can have 'fowl' up to 6, hens only. It does not specify species. Am I right to interpret that to be ducks, chickens, guineas, quail etc. That they just have to be female?

    Clipping nails?

My buff has really long nails, should they be clipped? And if so, how? Also one of her dew claws snagged and broke somehow and is hanging on by a thread. Should I just let it die and fall off? Her other foot has no dew claw just that toe. My mallard has no dew claws just toes and his regular...

does Ideal Poultry clip mallard toes?

In my search to find out if my boy is a Rouen or Mallard I called the feed store I bought him from and they get ducklings and chicks from Ideal. I can't find much on ideal's website so I thought I'd ask here. My boy has all his toes so I am assuming Rouen if it is true that breeders have to clip...

    She's a poop eater!

My 4.5 week old buff is always eating poop. Her own poop and the other duck's poop. Is this normal? My other duck will sometimes eat it when they are having a swim but my buff eats it all the time. It is gross! Should I be concerned?
