    Turkeys Setting on Chicken Eggs

I have 2 Bourbon Red hens setting on eggs. I had been thinking about buying an incubator to hatch some Black Copper Maran chicks. However, my BR's are setting so well, I decided to add some chickens eggs to see if they will hatch them for me. Has anyone ever done this? I'm curious to hear...

    My Hens Aren't Setting!

I have 2 hens & 1 tom. Mating season has definitely started at our house. The girls are laying and have around 10 eggs in their nest. Last year they took turns setting and my tom even sat on the eggs which gave the girls a break. But so far this year no one is setting on the eggs. The hens...

    My New Brood!

I am very excited because I just purchased 5 Black Copper Maran chicks. They are out of the Wade Jeane and Bev Davis lines. I saw the rooster and hen and was able to confirm the dark eggs the hen produces. The breeder I purchased them from has strived to maintain the breed standards for both...

    My hens stopped laying!!

Question: I have 2 year old hens that initially laid very well. Last May I introduced a rooster. They laid until they started molting. They molted for almost 2 months which seemed long. When they started to lay again they laid for about 4 weeks and then stopped. That has been about 8 weeks...

    Rooster Behavior Question

I have a question that maybe one of the experts out there can help me with! I have a small flock of Buff Orpington hens that are 2 years old. Whenever I have ”treats” for them I have always called them and they come running. About a month ago I adopted a 4 month old rooster whose fate was to...

    My Ducks Killed My Chicken

Last year we adopted a 4 year old Indian Runner drake named Sonny. He loved hanging out with our hens so we thought we’d get him a girlfriend. We rescued a Muscovy that initially we thought was a hen but who turned out to be a drake. At first the Muscovy was great to have around. But as...

    Broody Hen

I have a hen that has become broody. She prefers to sit on everybody’s eggs all day. I check on her daily and she seems to be okay, but I'm not sure if I should just leave her be or take some sort of action. Can anyone give me some advice? Thank you!

    My Birds & My Dogs

I thought I would share some pics of my Golden Girls and my dogs. Rocky, who's the black dog, chases off hawks when they decide to come around. We love our birds!

What's a good age to unit chicks & hens

Hi All ~ I am new to the chicken world so I am turning to you the "chicken experts" for advice. I recently adopted 5 beautiful Buff Orpington chicks (dubbed "The Golden Girls") that will be 4 weeks old on July 17th. A neighbor of mine had an aunt pass who had (3) 4 year old white rock hens...

Does anyone know what a black bottom chicken is?

I have a neighbor that knows someone wanting to get rid of black bottom chickens. I've been told they have feathered feet. I have done some searches but nothing has turned up. Does anyone out there know anything about this chicken breed that can tell me something about them?

Looking for pullets or hens in CO

My husband recently built us a coop perfect for 4 or 5 hens. Minimum orders on chicks eliminates that option. Now my challenge is to find someone trying to down size their flock. I'd really like to find White Rocks, Buff Orpingtons or Black Giants if possible.
