    My sweet girls

Just wanted to share how sweet my girls are. I have five sexlinks, three red and two black. They are all friendly, a few more than the others. The one on my lap is Love. She also loves to jump on my back when I kneel down. Her sister there is Brave.

    Hen jumps on my back

One of my chickens has started jumping on my back when I kneel down by them. She started by first coming up to me and pecking at my shirt then started jumping on me. She will peck at my hair and wipe her beak on me. I find it very cute, of course. Is she trying to be dominant? She is the...

    Chicken personalities

I have five sexlink hens and love them so much. I never thought I would feel this way about chickens, haha. Their personalities are so unique. I have one that one day somehow got out of my gate. I went outside and saw her trying desperately trying to squeeze back in. Then the other day I...

    No eggs for few days

My chickens are about 18 weeks now. One started laying two weeks ago and then it looked like another got in to the mix. I say this because I found two in one day. I was getting an egg every other day. Then the last few days nothing. When I let them out of the coop yesterday morning, one was...

    Feeding oyster shell

I bought some of the oyster shell to feed my chickens. So far they pick it up and drop it on the ground, as if the pieces are too big. Dos anyone else have this issue? I did not see any oyster shell with smaller pieces at the feed store.

    Does my chicken love me?

I hope they do! One my hens has become quite friendly. I like to kneel by them and talk to them and they all hang around me. One of them has started walking behind me and pecking at my clothing. Yesterday, I was kneeling down rinsing out the dog water bowl. She came behind me and jumped on...

    Feeding fruits/veggies

I tried to feed my girls some cantaloupe and bananas yesterday and they do not seem interested. Do I just keep trying or feed it a certain way? I just cut them up in to pieces. They really like cabbage and grapes so far.

    Will chicks calm down?

I have five chicks, three red sexlinks and two black sexlinks. They are more like teenagers now I guess. Three of them are much easier to catch and the other two are just crazy! One black sexlink (she has some brown feathers on her chest, but is mostly black) and one of the red (the one with...

    Chicks want to come inside

So this partly sharing my chickies and also a question. I am not sure how many weeks they are, probably 7 weeksish. They stay outside all day now, free ranging when I am home and in the coop when I am at work. They still come in at night in their brooder, which is starting to get too small...

    Feeding older chicks

My babies are about 4 weeks now and getting so big. My question is about feeding. They are now out in their coop during the day, all day. Do they need food in front of them at all times? That is how it is now. They do get treats occasionally, but mostly their chick feed.

    Question about chicks in coop

My chicks are about three weeks old now and I have been taking the out to the coop during the day when I am home to supervise. Yesterday I left them in there until the sun started going down and they were all at the coop door crying. I easily picked them all up and put them in their brooder...

    Pine shavings

So we finally got our baby chicks! They are so cute and we are so excited! My question/concern is that I put pine shavings in there for them. I see they are pecking at them. Are they trying to eat the shavings? Should I take them out for now?

    Getting chicks today!

So we will be getting some chicks today! My question is they will be two weeks old, so how warm does their brooder need to be? I live in AZ and keep my house pretty warm. Thank you!

    Wanting to raise baby chicks

Hi, I am new to this forum. I have never owned chicken before but we are wanting to have our own small flock in the near future. I have a few questions/concerns. First, this is a residential home, so there is not alot of land. I also currently have rocks everywhere, but do plan on putting in...
