Hello! I am considering starting meat chickens. Is there a recommended processor in Middle TN? I am south of Franklin, if that helps.
Anyone else have them? Where do you get your stock?
Thanks!
I really can't say details just yet, as I only noticed this once thus far. I have one hen who has nasty funky poop every night where she sleeps (at least a few weeks has been going on). This morning when I went out I noticed some bright red blood around the area and with her poop (it wasn't much...
I have 13 of laying age, who have laid before, and I am getting maybe 2 eggs a day. All 5 of my black ones came from a farm, and came looking rough. Had they molted? They do have new feathers coming in, but I didn't know of their appearance was from the rooster they were with and conditions they...
Our preschool hatches eggs each spring. I end up with the chicks... ;)
I would like to put myself in charge of ordering, and my plan is to get sex linked breeds, so I can tell from the beginning who is a girl! My daughters fell head over heels in love with the 6 roos we ended up with last...
I have 5 in quarantine right now as they are new. They've been there for 4 weeks. Honestly their area is too small but it's the best we could do. I was cleaning out the coop today and scooped some poop and realized it was squirming... Vom. At first I freaked thinking it was worms. The more I...
Got some chickens from someone. They are quarantined. Is this normal poop?
It did get wet, hence how watery it is. Just looks different than any of my other chickens!
First off, they are barnyard animals. I know they stink. But I always hear people saying "my coop doesn't smell at all", etc, etc. I mean really? So if so, how do you keep it from smelling?!
I scoop out what poop I can, every day. I put fresh pine shavings down pretty often, and there is lots...
Newbie here!
We have 12, 6 week old chicks, various breeds.
We also then picked up 2, 1 year old Buff Orphingtons. They both laid the day we got them, obviously they had begun that egg the day prior. Since then, one (Ana) lays almost every day, skipping days here and there. The other (Elsa)...
Breed? Seems to be a pullet to my very untrained eye. 7 weeks old. So much smaller than my others and so shy and timid. Kids have named her Scardey! Andddddd it's impossible to take a photo of this fast one! Forst photo is middle chick

We moved our 12, 8 week old chicks to the coop a few days ago. They love it! We are
Getting two hens that are laying this weekend. Thoughts on integrating them? Should they be fine?!
We have 12, 6 week old chicks. 2 roos for sure, and not sure on the others. I wanted to get 2-3 laying hens so we could have eggs this summer also. The babies are still in the brooder, and the coop is almost ready. How do I go about getting them all in the coop? Just put them out there and call...
I have read here people using the rubber "sealer" on the floor of the coop itself. What type/brand is this, and I am assuming it is 100% safe for the girls if they peck some up?
We have a dozen 4 week old chicks that will be moved outdoors in the next two weeks. We have a 10x20 ft shed (pictured here); the smaller side with the porch will be the coop, divided off inside by a wall from the larger portion. We will be fencing a run that is the size of a neighborhood yard...
