How does a hen behave when she gets "broody"? Our bantam hen keeps looking for new, out of the way, places to lay her eggs. Is this just odd behavior or signs that she wants to sit on some eggs?
Thanks,

Just wanted to share some recent photos of my micro flock. I have 3 bantams. A Silver Duckwing Roo (Thelma), a Mille Fluer hen (Millie), and a Golden Duckwing (Mini) hen. In the first photo the girls are sunbathing, not dead or injured. In the second photo Thelma (the roo) is eating his oats...
I haven't posted for a few weeks and wanted everyone to know that, on Monday, I received (via USPS) two new hens. Since the death of our beloved bantam hen in February, our Silver Duckwing Rooster has been a little lonely.
I went on a search of breeders in Ohio and found someone with two hens...
Has anyone ordered from the Cackle Hatchery? I found their website on the internet and they offer "clean leg, straight run" bantam chics. This would be a variety of breeds. The thing I like about their offer is that you can order as few as five.
Also, I should know this, but what exactly does...
We recently lost a bantam hen that we were told was a Wheaton. Whatever she was, she was IMHO a perfect hen. My question is, are Wheaton's a common Bantam breed and does anyone have them?

Our beautiful Bantam (wheaton) hen "Weezie" died this afternoon. She was nearly three and had been in very good health. We're not sure what happened. Started acting less-than-perky on Monday. Revived a bit on Tues-Thursday. She never stopped eating or drinking. My wife and I raised her from a...
I purchased two Bantam chics from a local farm supply store three years ago. They were only a couple of days old. I wanted two hens. Several "experts" in the store gave conflicting advice about how to tell rooster chics from hens. The short story is, I got one rooster and one hen. They have been...
I have two pet bantams, a rooster and a hen. They are nearly three years old. We have been having some cold weather, in the teens and twenties at night. I brought them into our garage, put them in a spacious cage and put a heat light over them. Is this too much? Do they need some "dark" time...
