Here is my BR Stella. She is wild! Do you think she might be a fella? Her comb is just now getting red. She DOES NOT have rear plumes...she was sold to me as a pullet by a reputable store. She has not laid any eggs yet.
I am in Texas...daughter is in PA. I need to ship a bird to her that is just too loud for our stealth operation.

Do I have to have a special container?
My chickens ( 2 hens) just make a mess of the crumbles. They won't eat it. I let them free range for hours...also toss them grapes....what can I do to get them to eat their crumbles? Could they be getting enough via free range?
I am new ( a year) to keeping meat and egg layers. Feel I am pretty good with them. I want to go on vacation... I don't know who to ask to watch my chickens. I send dog to pet resort but there are no chicken resorts!

When I put the feed in their cups, they peck all out and it is under the cage so they can't get it, so they poop all over it.
Any better ideas for having free choice food? I was thinking of some of the cakes/flock block thing...any ideas to keep the crumble from going everywhere?
If I feed my dog a higher quality food, I notice her poop is less/smells ok, not horrible.
Is there any chicken feed/additive etc that will do the same for chickens? I am feeding them Layena.
The heat here is starting to make water lines break. If you have outdoor animals/birds, you might want to store up some water for them. It would be horrible for them to run out and then you have to go up to store to get more...
With it being close to 100 I am keeping my RIR named Sun inside. I let her out to free range when I get home and it is only 93! So she is getting used to our inside routine....so here she is with my cutie pie dog and our "going out" routine...

We keep kosher at our house. Blood spots in eggs as I have been taught make the egg unkosher. I would rather give these eggs to our friends who are not kosher or jewish and don't care about this. Is there a method at home to tell if blood spot is in egg before cracking? Thanks
