I currently have a six week old chick in the house with me right now (momma abandoned the nest to be with the other chicks while she was still pipped). So, i brought her inside and helped her hatch out, and by the time she was strong enough to be with the other chicks, momma wanted nothing to do...
I don't personally own the doves but my sister does, but i am very interested in them! So, momma dove is all white and daddy dove is brown and white. They had a baby... and he/she is black! They've had babies in the past and they all turned out to be brown with the typical black ring around...
So tonight I was out candling eggs that are under my broody hen Pollux. And I saw a few teeny little bugs crawling around on the eggs. So my question is; how do I go about treating her. I know I have to put Sevin dust on her but how should I go about it with the eggs? Do I dust them too? Just...
I have a pullet who has been laying for almost two months. Tonight when I was watching them she all of a sudden just popped out a yolk and white, it looked as if I just cracked open a egg right in the middle of the coop, there wasn't any pieces of shell anywhere. Should I be worrying or is this...
So my sister has a lovebird and his/her name is Chi-Chi :) I'm thinking s/he is a peach-faced but I just want to know if I'm correct. Any way to tell the gender of these guys too?
I'd really really like the help if anyone can offer it. Also, his/her previous over gave his/her mate away to...
A long long 23 weeks and 4 days ago I bough 6 of my 16 babies. I've been having a few of them star to squat lately and I finally got my first egg today! I was super excited and still am!
The egg is so little and perfect, the shell isn't even soft!
And here's the culprit herself :)...
Hi guys, I was thinking about buying a 150 watt flat panel heater for my 8x8 insulated coop, I live in mid Vermont and it can get well below zero a lot of nights. Do you think that'll be okay?
My white rock girl will be 23 weeks tomorrow. She was perfectly fine yesterday but when I let them out this morning she's started to make these almost honking like noises. She's also making her regular noises along with them too. And if it helps any she also squatted for the first time this...
So for the past week or so I've noticed my almost 13 week old EE pullet acting very different. She's usually very hyper and well.. acts like a chicken should. Lately I've caught her standing around and kind of hunching her neck closer to her body. I checked her crop and it has food in it so I'm...
At about 8 pm I was walking up my driveway (its been rainy the past few days so it was pretty dark for being 8) and all in about the span of 5 seconds I heard the flapping of wings and very soft quacks/squeaks. A duck, hit me in the back of the head with her wing and landed in front of me. Where...
I've heard bad and good thing about chickens and ceder, so I thought I'd ask. Can I use ceder posts for my chickens run? (As in the posts that will support the wire) I've heard that it can be toxic to them. Anybody give me a little input on this?
Every time I leave the app (I use it to get on my forums) it always logs me out of BYC! It usually didn't log me out but then it updated and now it logs out every time :(
(Rant over) xD
I know this isn't a breed or gender question, but I have no idea where I would put this. I bought a beautiful buff brahma girl yesterday and the man I bought her from said she was 12 weeks old, but she's so tiny! He told me she was a standard sized chicken. Any advice on my little girl?
I currently have 15 chickens, (some are 12 weeks, some 9 weeks, and some 8 weeks) and only some of them use the roost (literally like.. four or five) are they still in the cuddly baby stage or do I have chickens who dislike to roost?
I have a 7 week old Easter Egger. And I'm not sure if she's a pullet or not. Help please! :)
And sorry if the pictures are bad x.x she's one of the skittish girls I have.
This is George (named by the very nice man whom I bought him from, and oddly a nickname that one of my uncles calls me) I'm pretty sure he's a Easter Egger and I'm absolutely in love with his colors! He's yet to go into his temporary enclosure, I still need to put a couple finishing touches on it.
