I went to TSC today to get chick feed, of course they had chicks and of course they were in almost deplorable conditions. I saw 2 chicks with open pecking wounds and I couldn't stand to leave them there. Min chick purchase is 6... I am now 6 chicks richer:) 2 Amber-links and 4 GLW:)

I "rescued" 2 chicks from TSC today. They both have bloody areas, one on its wing and one where its tail used to be. They would only sell me the min amount of 6. So now I have 4 other chicks picking at the wounds. My brooder isn't really big enough to seperate them and be able to give them all...
We have 6, 3 week olds(BO&SLW) in a rubbermaid container in our basement. Now that they are bigger(and bad!) I'd like to move them outside, with their heat lamp of course.
I have med sized A-frame coop and run. I can close off the run part and hang their light in the coop. When the weather is...
I have 6, five day old chicks from My Pet Chicken. They are in a brooder, on paper towels, heat lamp, chick starter, fresh water, etc.
One of them is puffed up and not socializing. She also has mucus-y diarrhea, clear and stringy.
What can I do for her?
One of my RSLs seems to want to cuddle up to her egg after she lays. She rolls it around in front of her then settles on top for a while. Eventually she gets up and goes on about her day, but I had read somewhere that RSLs wont go broody.
She also seems to be protective of the nesting boxes...
All of my chicken lay eggs with what seems to be very small yolks.
They are fed layer pellets and have free choice oyster shell, they also eat a lot of bugs, snakes, frogs, kitchen scraps and greens etc.
Even the large eggs they lay have small yolks. Will they get bigger over time? They have...
I have 6 19 week old pullets. They are on layer pellets, free choice oyster shell and a few hours of free ranging a day. (bugs, toads, worms and small snakes are things I see them eat)
I have at least one soft shelled egg everyday, this morning there were two.
I have a feeling one of them...
We have recently moved from town to 11 acres in the mountains! My chickens have free ranged in my yard in town up until this point.
Free ranging is not an option here. I need a solid coop and run. I'm worried they will be unhappy being cooped up(pun intended!) after FRing their whole lives...
Two of my RSL began(or so I thought) laying 4 days ago. They each laid a grand total of one egg and nothing more.
I was hoping for every other day or even every 2 days, but FOUR? Is this common?
One of them has been in and out of the nest box for the last 2 days, singing the song, but to no...
I have a 16 week old RSL. She has been squawking very loudly the past couple afternoons, just for a half hour or so. I have been watching her, thinking she might be starting to lay. None of the other chickens respond to her calling, which I though was strange.
She jumped up into an empty...
One of my 15 week old RSL pullets has been going after the choc lab who adores and protects all 6 of my chickens.
Its hot out, so he is panting and the chicken is going after his lolling tongue. He sits there and tolerates it! He looks at me like, "what am I suppose to do? I love them"
Is...
I have posted about this bird before, unsure about whether it was a roo or not. At 11 weeks she still has yellow in her comb and it is the same size as my other RSL pullets. I'm sure she is a she:)
However, "Lemon" has RSL roo coloring to a "t". Brown speckles across her back, buff colored...
I can't seem to find any decent deals for ordering DE. The shipping is more than the product.
Anyone have any good sites(i.e. low shipping costs) or know of any stores that sell DE?
I have to lure them into the coop every night with bread. As it is, tonight I wasn't early enough. They are all settled into an apple tree overhanging the coop, via my kids playhouse.
Its pretty high up, so I'm not sure shoo-ing them out is an option. We have never had a predator and the...
I currently have 6 RSL pullets, they were/are my introduction to chicken owning.
We will be moving to an 11 acre (soon to be)farm. I would like to expand my flock to a few different pure breeds.(good egg layers and some my kids can show in 4-h) After navigating BYC daily for the last few...
"Lemon" is about 8 weeks old. He/she was all white until last week when brown spots popped up on his/her wings.
Her legs are as small as my other pullets and her comb is still somewhat yellow.

and for leg comparison
We have permission from our borough manager to keep chickens in town as long as we don't have roosters.
Well, my neighbors have 3 roos.(in with only 2 hens, yikes) They started crowing this morning, I have heard them practicing over the last week but this was the first full blown...
Are they considered dangerous to chickens?
My chicks are 6-7weeks old. I saw a small/medium sized garter snake around the coop this morning, should I be worried about it?
I can, um...get "rid" of it if I need to.
Thank you!
As I am reading about chicken diseases and illnesses, I've come across info on Marek's.
Its says that grey eyes(iris) are a sign/symptom.
EVERY one of my chicks(3-4weeks) have grey eyes.
Does this mean they have Marek's?
