    Expanding the flock questions

Hubby and I are ready to expand the flock since the current one is just not able to keep up with production demands. I have heard several things that I would like clarification on... 1. When do hens generally start to taper off on egg production? excluding times of moulting. I have heard...

I took the advice of many on here to add these 5 hens to my main flock at night after they go to roost. That was 2 days ago. The first morning there had be a squabble as 2 of the hens had peck marks on their heads. I doctored them with some Peck No More by Rooster Booster. This morning again...

best way to integrate new birds into the flock?

Strange calcium deposit on egg shell

We have Ameracana's about a year old and recently have noticed that one or two of the hens have been laying eggs with calcium bumps on the shell. Is this normal? Could it be diet related? Or something else? sometimes the deposit will brush off with the rub of a finger and other times it is...

    When building a Turkey coop

How many square feet should you allow per bird? I would much rather allow them to free range but since we are only on a 1 acre lot it is not feesible at this time. I know with chickens it should be 5 square feet per bird when it comes to chickens but not sure on the turkeys.

    Royal Palm Turkey

I have a Royal palm tom and 3 hens that are right at a year old. I am wondering at what age they will get their black tips on their feathers? I figured it would be after a molt but they have yet to really molt. We even recently moved their coop to another area of the yard so they were even...
