I haven't been on BYC in a long while so I would like to introduce myself (again).
My name is Kim and I have had a flock for about 4 years. I have a mixed flock (mostly from Tractor Supply) that is 15 strong. I have raised this flock as a respite from life. They make me happy and give me...
Rocky - my handsome 18 week old roo (mixed breed) is chasing several of my hens. He is not getting "friendly", he is out for feathers and blood. I have had to chase him down to stop it several times.
Any suggestions? I am thinking it is very likely just hormones, but I will not be giving him...
This is a mixed breed chick born 2/23. Mom is a silkie and Dad s 1/2 EE & Frizzle. I an say the chick is full size and not bantam. I'll be back with another soon. I have 4 I can't figure out.
i was greeted by what looks like a massacre in my chicken coop this morning. It is from the stool on 3-4 chickens. They are eating and drinking fine, running around their area like nothing is new. Lately we have had a lot of rain and conditions outside have been damp. Coop is dry, not perfect...
This little guy is 3 days old. I hatched him and have no sick birds. Both eyes are very watery and he is shaking his head. I have no clue and want to help him out. He is walking, eating, drinking etc. no other issues. I am totally confused.
HELP!!!
Today is day 22 of our incubation. We have 5 eggs unhatched. These may have been fertilized but only 2 I could see positive signs of fertilization.
This is my first hatch so I am not sure how long to hold out hope for the remaining eggs. Please give me opinions, or flat out tell me what...
This little one was born about 2 hours ago. It is now panting. Do I take it out and give water? I have a mama with babies, I could tuck it under her. Or is that certain death.
All help so appreciated.
i have a hen who has gone broody and a friend was to give us a "few" eggs. When we picked them up yesterday she gave me 19!!! I have placed several under my broody and now have a dozen left. Of course I ran out and purchased an incubator for the remaining dozen today.
Here is where I am...
i have a bantam Cochin Roo that is 22 wks old. This morning we noticed his feet are a mess. He is not favoring them and it has not hindered his dancing at all. Please help a Chicken Mama out!!! He is my only feather footed bird and this concerns me. [/IMG]
one of my girls is having a problem!!! She is a 23 week old Buff Orpington and started laying about 2 weeks ago. Her first few eggs were beautiful, the shells felt gritty (not smooth) but we're otherwise great. Then a soft shell, 2 days later shell-less, next day again no shell. I changed food...
We have had dogs get 3 of our chickens in the last week so when I heard one of my girls squawking loudly I started running! What I found made me scream in JOY!!! TWO EGGS - A blue and a white!!!! So it seems that two of the girls decided today, their 20 week birthday, would be the day!!
i opened my feed this morning and a few small moths were fluttering around. They look like pantry moths. Can i still use this feed? Seems harmless to me but not sure. My birds are 7 and 12 weeks old.
My baby boy is crowing at 5 weeks old! Do ya see me dancing? Out of my 18 birds 3 look to be roosters. Two were puffing and dancing for the girls and my sweet beautiful CJ puffed his chest, threw up his head and let go! I am so tickled!!!
This girl joined my family as a day old on 3/26. Makes her a little over 5 weeks old. I am fairly certain she is a pullet but PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong. She was mixed in as a warmer with a bunch of turkeys. It was quite a sight.
My kids have started calling me the chicken mama. We live in Central Texas and now have a flock of 18 birds, looks like 15 girls and 3 boys. So far so good here in Texas. We planned on having 6-9 hens and I just kept picking babies. Oops!!! ;0). My "kids" are 5 & 10 weeks old. Right now they...
