I just noticed today that I have an older silkie whose legs are splayed. I feel terrible for not noticing before now! She has extra long feathers and tends to stay under the Brinsea heater.
Anyone have experience with treating older chicks? It's about 7-8 weeks old.
Thanks.
I hatched these four from what was supposed to be speckled sussex eggs. Two of them don't look pure to me. I'm thinking maybe SS x GLW? One is clearly roo. Do you agree that they look like crosses?
I think of the two that do look like speckled suusex, I have a pair, labeled SS pullet and SS...
First time hatching and I just realized the eggs were supposed to be small in down in the tray. It's day 16. What should I do? I'm afraid to turn them now and was considering taking them out of the turner and putting them flat ahead of lockdown.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks.
I pulled a 4 week old chicks out of my toy poodle's mouth this morning. Luckily the poodle is so old he has no teeth, so there are no punctures or obvious bites. The chick can stand up and I treated for shock with electrolytes. I tried putting it back in with momma but she completely ignored it...
I put two babies under a broody who wouldn't give up setting. She's taken to them beautifully for the past three days.
Before putting them under her, I moved her from my big coop into the small grow out coop I keep. Until today she's kept them "upstairs" but today all were out on the ground...
Can anyone confirm for me? I'm fairly sure the Mille Fleur is a roo but not so sure about the three porcelains. #3 and #4 have a little larger comb but they aren't red at all.
I want to sell these and don't want to mislead any buyers.
Thanks for any help!

I bought these as day old chicks. Supposed to be speckled sussex. I thought I had indentified them as Welsummers when I had four dark eggs and only three Marans. I've since figured out that these two mystery pullets are not laying the extra dark eggs. (I guess there was a Maran egg I missed)...
Hi everyone. I have two 18 week old pullets that I bought as day olds from the local feed store (who supposedly got them from Cackle Hatchery). They have the beautiful mahogany under color and black markings but so far no white at all. I've read that they get more white with age, but is is...
These three Coronation Sussex are supposed to be from the same hatch, but as you can see, one is feathering much more slowly. Im thinking two hens and a roo.... what do you think?
