Introducing new or just doing away with the old

Right now we have 9 hens & 1 roo that are 7 months old. We bought them from a backyard breeder who said they were australorps. Well.. they're mixed, & we really wanted full breeds. So, we ordered some full breeds, 17 pullets & 2 roos that are currently in the brooder and are about 4 weeks now...

    tetracycline

I have a hen that has a respiratory infection. It was advised to give her tetracycline which has helped. We are on day 5 of the treatment but her poo is still very watery. Would the meds make it this way? She seems back to normal other wise. Maybe there's something else going on? TIA

    Help. Hen isn't acting right

I have one big australorp cross hen who isn't acting right. She sat in the corner of the run all day. She won't eat & I don't think she's drinking either. Her tail is down instead of up and perky like normal. What could be wrong with her? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

    question about silkie looks

Eventually I would like to get some silkies. Not ready for them just yet. I've noticed in pics some silkies have the really poofy feathers on the head & others don't. Is it different breeds? When I'm ready to buy some how do I know if I'm going to get the poofy heads or not? TIA

    We have our first eggs!

In September we got our first baby chicks, 12 Australorps. We lost one in the brooder and another after they were moved to the pen by a wild animal. So now we have 9 hens & 1 roo. Yesterday we found the first 4 eggs. 3 were small & one was a good size. Today there was 3 more, 1 big, 2 small. All...

    No pine shavngs or hay...ok?

My baby ducks are so messy! We have a brooder box set up in the garage but I'm worried that it's still to cold so I had them in a box inside. They soaked the box within 24 hours. So, I had the brainy idea of putting them in the garden tub, that we never use. I put the water right on top of the...

    wheat for ducks

Hi, I'm a first time duck mom. I've been reading a lot today about housing the ducks with our chickens once they're older. I read that feeding them wheat along with the pellets is good for them. Where do I buy the wheat? I don't see it at the feed store. TIA
