My hens are caged in their run. We don't let them free range because we have 25 of them plus we have a lot of chicken hawks around.
I do want them to have access to the grass so I thought maybe I could throw in a bunch of grass clippings after hubby has mown the lawn.
Is this ok?
My darling hubby STEPPED ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He walked into the coop last night and CRUNCH!
She layed it right in front of the door.
UGH!
My hens are only 18 weeks! I always thought they layed at 24 weeks.
I'll have to keep going in to check for more eggs.
Do they eventually learn...
I just noticed that 2 of my BO have cracked beaks. It's the top beak that is cracked and broken on one side. They'll be OK right? Do beaks regrow themselves like nails do?
I'm assuming they cracked it jumping from the highest roost.
We have a 10 x 10 coop with 25 chickens in it. (They are 15 weeks old. The average temp outside is 32 during the day so they stay inside all day.) We use pine shavings to cover the floor. We clean it once a week because the poop builts up and it starts to smell.
Do we need to clean it that...
I'm ass-u-ming that my RSL fell off the top roost as she is limping tonight. (she is 10 weeks today) She is able to flex her toes and is able to walk on it. It's not a huge limp but a slight limp.
Do I need to isolate her? When others get too close she gets up and moves away.
She should be...
My chicks are 6 weeks old. My babies were almost out of the mash I get so I went in to the store to get a 25# bag. I usually get 50# but since they are so close to being 8 weeks I figured I would get just the 25# and then get them started on the next level at 8 weeks.
I asked for a 50# of...
So it looks like out of 25 chicks I may have definately 2 maybe 3 roos. Is that too many for my hens?
They are only 6 weeks this week so I have a while to worry about it.
I don't want any roosters but will settle for 1. What can I do to get rid of the other 1 or 2? I won't kill it.
I don't...
I think I know the answer.
All my chicks are 5.5 weeks old.
This was the only good pic I could get of the legs. They are uncooperative little buggers!
The one is question is on the far right. This one shows the tail feathers in comparison to the others of the same breed.
I can't wait to get eggs!!!!!
This is the only one that has white feathers like that!
This australorp is the only one out of all my chicks with a name. I call her "Raven" because she looks like a raven. She is the only one with a completely black beak.
I really have no idea as this is my first experience with chickens. I think it's a boy because he/she has the largest comb out of all 25 chicks. He/she will be 4 weeks on Wednesday.
McMurray told me my chicks were hatching on Tues and Wed and that I should expect them on Thursday. I called my post office and they don't have them.
UGH!!!
I hope my chicks never get injured. I just feel so bad for the ones that have to ask for help. It's seems so much more complicated having a chick injury than having a dog or cat injury.
With a dog or cat, all you have to do is pack them up and drive to the vet.
With a chick it seems you need...
