Hey Y’all! My kiddos and I rescued this little girl from a grocery store parking lot last week. Trying to figure out what breed she may be. Doesn’t look quite like my Nigerians. She’s got wattles as well.
hello! One of my hens hatched out a batch of chicks a couple months back- a few are looking mighty cockerely, just looking for some confirmation. I believe my EE roo fathered most of these, moms could be ee’s, rsl, bsl, australorp, slw....
Anyways, thanks so much! And sorry for all the mud, we...
Hi all! This is my first time with geese and I’ve been snooping around for answers to my questions but am a little lost on a few still.
One of my female Embdens started a nest today and laid her first egg! Yay!! Except she did it right under a lean-to that is high traffic for goats, dogs...
Hello there!!!
Here in the Midwest it has been quite cold (-6) and icy/snowy for us the past few days- this morning I noticed our mini pony, horse, and donkey all had snowballs on their hooves. The big horse wasn’t too bad but the mini and the donkey had a good amount packed in their hooves...
hello! Sassy the Sumatra needs to go to a new home with no small children. Does fine with all my hens and other Roos, great with my 9 and 10 year old, but went after my 2 year old yesterday and we can't have that. He's almost a year old. Very pretty boy. Hatchery quality. Please let me know if...
Hello all! I went out to the coop today and found this egg in a nest on the coop floor. Occasionally my chickens will burrow out a nest and lay on the ground if their favorite nesting box is in use (strange birds), but the egg I got from the ground nest today was not a chicken egg!
It looks...
Howdy!
Got home from an errand and saw that one of my young magpie hens is limping/favoring one leg. I scooped her up and examined her legs and feet- no obvious injuries, cuts, breaks, etc.
Any ideas? Could leg injuries be caused during mating? She's not laying yet but has started to mate...

Just curious as to what everyone thinks of this. Found it interesting that they claim the dogs aren't truly working dogs because the "income" (animals) they protect only bring in 26,000$ a...
Hello! Picked up these boys today and I'm not positive on breeds....wanting a second opinion :)
The one looks like a bronze to me...the other is solid like a black, but is brown not black? Could he be a bourbon?
Thanks so much!
Hello all! Later this week I am picking up four Cayuga ducklings, two for each of my step sons. They will be "raising" them and yes, I will be closely supervising ;)
I am able to tell all of my ducks and chickens apart, but the boys are 8 and 10 and I see many a fight over whose duck is whose...
This isn't necessarily about chicken pests- just pests in general. I'm needing good ideas to naturally get rid of or deter ticks. No frontline or anything like that as we are all pesticide free.
Do guineas really work at getting tick population down?
I've tried feeding my dogs brewers yeast...
Hello all! Just wanting to see what type of pet pig people are in BYC land!
I've got a five year old PB named Jemimah, Mimi for short.
I've also rescued quite a few PB's through the rescue that I work for :)
Share your piggies here!! Questions and advice etc. are also welcomed!
Hello!!
I may just be overreacting, but I went out to check on my hens and one of my young black stars had her eye closed and it looked somewhat swollen. There is no goop or crust or any type of secretion- her breathing is normal. Could she have just gotten pecked in the eye by another hen? Can...
Hello all! On Wednesday evening our favorite chicken (mrs.tittlemouse, a factory egg farm reacue) was hopping around on one leg outside and we very quickly realized her leg was broken. From my best guess we are thinking that our potbellied pig, Jemimah, stepped on her by accident :(
Anyhow, I...
A couple months ago I got ten hens from a commercial egg farm- here is one of them two months later! Her name is mrs.tittlemouse and she decided to hop right into my lap today :)
I don't consider chickens to be incredibly smart animals (though I may be wrong about that) but if this isn't...
Hello- this is my first post...I made a stupid mistake and now I need help! Please =)
I have a small flock of 9 easter eggers that are about 6 months old, I have raised them on 100% organic food, no antibiotics or anything of that sort. On our farm we use no pesticides and our chickens free...
