We got several baby chicks back in October, all sexed female.
By 18 weeks we were certain that they were all pullets and ended up giving a few to a friend since we had so many.
We had 2 brown leghorns and kept one and gave one away.
This week they are 25 weeks and ours started laying, but...
So I have one older EE who I know laid the egg on the bottom and 2 new EEs that are 19-20 weeks old, that I don’t think are laying yet, but the egg on the top is slightly different (shape and hue)
I am leaning toward natural variation from my older EE, as I don’t think the first egg from one of...
I am in So Cal and don’t provide my chickens with extra light, so they usually stop laying in November and start again mid February.
I have 2 seasoned layers (3-5 years old) and 1 new Sexlink that is around 30 weeks.
My EE (5 yrs old) laid 5-6 eggs a week ago, then nothing else, my other...
These are 2 of my fall babies, now 18 weeks.
The darker one is an EE and I think she is quite striking. She is also very social and inquisitive.
The lacing on my SLW is also coming along nicely 😊
I just had to share my pretty FBC Marans pullet's eggs. These are her 1st four. They have darkened quite nicely! Chocolate eggs just in time for Easter!
My wait is coming to an end. All 3 of my new pullets started to squat within this last week. Their comb and wattles are red, vents moist an open, 2-3 finger spacing between pin bones.
This morning there was quite the ruckus cacaphony from the coop, but when I went out to check, there were only...
So these eggs are from my current 3 layers.
L to R: Golden Sexlink, EE, Black Australorp.
Today I found a "slightly" different egg that could be the Australorp, but the shape a little heavier at the bottom and the shell is smoother than her typical which leads me to believe it might be one of...
Our mystery pullet squatted today! She was also pacing and rather chatty. She already has a 3 finger pin bone separation and moist open vent.
Hoping to see her 1st egg soon, and wondering what color it will be.
Common thoughts now are some sort of Marans/Wyandotte cross which would hopefully...
Can anyone tell me what breed (mix of breeds) this girl might be?? She hasn't laid yet... so no egg color to help.
Weird comb
Feathered feet
Bluish grey
So this little lady was purchased as a Cuckoo Marans, it was almost immediately apparent that she wasn't a full Cuckoo due to her comb. As she grew she did develop feathered feet and there is very subtle barring under the grey tone, so we are suspecting she is part Cuckoo Marans and what else...
This one is her back and wing, I'm concerned with the area of the wing that looks like the skin is torn clean off
The area I'm most concerned about is actually her neck, hidden under her hackle feathers. It's pretty open and there is a chunk of fat tissue exposed. We didn't initially see it due...
I went to do my nightly rounds/health check after the chickens were in the coop and roosting for the night. When I approached one of my 21 week EEs she did the classic "squat" while still on her roost. Her comb has exploded in the past week, but I didn't really expect her to be at POL for a few...
I know it is normal for chickens to lay small eggs when they first start, but I have gotten 5 eggs since Friday from one Pullet that are all just barely 30 grams
Another one just started yesterday and hers are right around 50 grams which seems more normal.
How long on average for my petite...
