Do you clip your ducks' nails?

My ducks are housed outside on rather soft ground, and it seems like their nails are not wearing down much. At what point do you trim? What's a good length?

Heard that due to the new VFD action, abx you buy at TSC, feed stores, etc will be pulled from shelves soon and will only be available by vet prescription.

    Poor Clover is limping

My 9 week old Pekin female Clover started with a slight limp about a week ago. Favoring her right leg. Naturally, first thing I checked was the bottom of her foot. Totally clean, soft, kissable widdle baby duck foot. :) Leg doesn't appear warm or swollen. It just seems she is kinda walking on...

    Frustrated drake?

Hi all! So I have 4 ducks - 3 pekin females and a Snowy Mallard Drake. The Drake was born very tiny and is still on the smaller side of mallards. They are all reaching puberty, and the mallard has started trying to mount the Pekins while they're in the pool. He is so much smaller - he...

    Traveling with house ducks

Just wondering how people with house ducks go on vacation? I'm assuming the duck is imprinted on you, or extremely attached, so how would you go away to a hotel for a week or something?

    Geepers peepers!

Hi all! I have 3 Pekin ducks. They are 8 weeks old. One of them lets out the occasional quack, and the other two still peep. Loudly, but def not a quack. They also do not make that low grumble mumble my mallard drake does. So what are the odds those two are girls??

    Mallard trying out his flying

My 11 week old Snowy Mallard has been doing a lot of flapping and jumping and test flying. He gets about 3 - 4 feet off the ground for a couple of seconds. I know he has not done his adult molt yet. Should I trim his wings now or wait til after the molt? He free ranges during the day inside...

URGENT! Sitting duck killed - have eggs & no incubator!

My neighbor down the road just showed up with 3 duck eggs that her pet white layer had been sitting on for the past 16 days. The duck was hit by a car this morning, neighbor has no incubator and brought the eggs to me thinking one of my birds would sit on them, but mine are way too young. (Not...

Anyone have 3 extra leg bands?

My pekin triplets are identical - same height, weight, voice, bill color etc - and I want to band them with different color leg bands so I can differentiate in case of health issues, but I really don't need a package of 100 or 500! If anyone has 3 size 12 bands, I'd be happy to buy them from...

    Winter checklist?

It's almost Aug 1st here in New Hampshire, which means only 2 more months til temps plummet. We are new to ducks, having received our babies in May, and we have not yet gone thru a winter. Very nervous about this as we usually have snow on the ground from late October to end of April. And...

    How do I unsubscribe?

I'd like to set things so I'm not notified each time someone responds on a post I've also responded to. How do I do that? Must I click Unsubscribe on each post or is there a way to just never get notifications period.

    Question about ducks and millet

I keep seeing millet on foods approved for ducks. How is it fed? Loose, like parakeet seed? On the stem? Won't millet just pass through undigested? Any benefits to it? I ask because I have parakeets and buy bulk spray millet.

What do you do with the eggs???

My ducks are only 6 weeks old, but I like to plan ahead. Our girls are pekins, our 1 drake is a snowy mallard. We WILL be eating the eggs on occassion, but the majority will be throwaways as we don't want ducklings for the forseeable future. What do you all do with the extra eggs??

    Spoiled. Now what?

My ducks are 6 weeks old. Starting 2 weeks ago I introduced veggies and fruits as well as hard boiled eggs. They have had mealworms since 2 weeks old and have always finished their crumbles as well. But now it seems my spoiled babies only want "the good stuff". I have 5 ducks and each morning...

    Muddy mudders

Hi all! My 3 pekins and 2 snowy mallards are 6 weeks old and they spend every night locked in their 5x15' covered pen and have a 1/4 acre of fenced in free range area where their pool is. They are let out around 6:30 am and tucked in at dusk. Though they are free to be out in the yard all day...

Thoughts on necessity of duck vets.

Hi all! As a relatively new (6 weeks) owner of ducks, I'm wondering what your thoughts are on making sure you have access to a duck saavy veterinarian. I see many many posts asking for advice on duck illness and injury, and often times folks can't afford or don't have access to proper vet...
