we recently got 9 chickens from someone who passed away. This weekend we had one of our previous chickens pass away. We now have another hen that is very warm, not wanting to eat or drink. She does still have her balance and is aware. Any ideas on what could be going on
just wondering if anyone knows the likelihood of chickens having strokes. We have one chicken who’s roughly 4-5 and when we came into the coop tonight she was just laying on the ground. She has her balance and is breathing but is not reacting to anything and will not open her eyes
our chickens have been eating their eggs and we are having a hard time stopping them. What is a good protein supplement to give them as we believe that’s the issue
we had our first chick hatch this morning. After it was out of the egg, it pooped out red. I have attached a picture as we don’t know if this is normal. It was staying attached to the chick
we are incubating eggs for the first time. We are at day 20 and 2 have already started to hatch. Since we made our own incubator we used a cooler. Will this make a different on them breathing? The one was chirping a lot earlier and we haven’t heard anything for the past 2 hours but we think the...
we have a rooster whos 2 and a long time ago he lost a toe nail but has never had any issues. We realized tonight that it is now infected as it is hot and swollen so we brought him inside to get it cleaned up. We cleaned it and wrapped it up. Does anyone have other suggestions on how to help him?
has anyone had one of their chickens nose bleed? We only have 1 in our flock that had this problem. We only noticed it tonight. I had thought that it might have been from being dry but our coop isn’t dry as we’re having warm temperatures and everything is thawing now.
Just looking for some input.
we have noticed lately that some of our leghorns are sneezing. There has been no other symptoms of runny noses or anything, just sneezing. Our weather temperature went from -30s to around -15 to -20 so the coop temperature has been fluctuating from 0 to +10. We have never had this behaviour...
does the severity of aggression with roosters vary between breeds? Our first rooster we got last summer is very calm and not aggressive towards humans or the hens at all. He is more scared of us than anything. He’s a mixed breed but not to sure what kind. This spring we ordered 10 americaunas...
We have a hen who has gone broody. We have 3 eggs that we are going to try and let her hatch. She has never hatched chicks before and this is our first time as well. Does anyone have any tips for us to help the process? She is in a coop with 15 other hens and 1 rooster.
We got 30 chicks almost a month ago. 10 of them(americaunas) were not sexed so I am looking for ways to figure out which are roosters compared to hens. I have attached 2 pictures of 2 of our americauna chicks to give an idea of size. If someone can give me tips that'd be appreciated.
We just received day old chicks on Tuesday. We have already had one pass away and we have one who will drink water when she wants but won't eat. She is spry at times but likes to sleep a lot. When we try and force her to drink water if she doesn't want it she will fight back. We are unsure of...
since it's been nice we've been letting our chickens out earlier in the day. They have the nesting boxing in the coop and some go back in to lay. However some just find a random spot outside and lay the eggs there. Is there a way to prevent that from happening as we don't know where they are laid?
i just recently purchased a sugarplum foxglove not realizing they are poisonous. We have chickens that freerange during the day and are locked up at night. Should I get rid of them incase the chickens get into them? I am not sure what to do as I've never had these flowers before.
We are new to getting chicks and are getting 30 at the end of May. From what I have been told they will be day olds. Does anyone have any tips? We have 18 laying hens already but I'm nervous to get chicks as we've never done them before.
Does anyone have trouble with hens picking at each other's feathers? We have been having that going on lately so we've been putting no peck on them hoping it'll stop it. We have been told that it's common during the winter seasons as they are stuck together for so long. Now that it's getting...
Has anyone had an egg that looks like this? It's a really light brown with blue spots on it. It's the first egg we have ever got that has had the blue spots, usually they are dark brown shells with brown spots. We have barred rocks, Colombian rocks, 1 leghorn and 1 Americauna. We are thinking...
