I have 4 red sex links and 3 Wynadottes. They are 18 months old. They molted a couple months ago. We had a very cold winter in Seattle.
We feed Purina Layer Feed.
We have Calcium Carbonate ‘grit’ but they dont appear to touch it all for weeks at a time.
My problem:
We are getting on a regular...
we have seven chickens about one year old. Raised them from about 4 weeks old.
We have one chicken acting strange. It is staying away from all the other chickens. Mainly staying in one position.
It let me pick it up with no problem and no signs of injury.
Does nor run to the snacks we put...
I know it sounds crazy but we Are considering moving our six chickens with us to Arkansas from Seattle love. They will 1-/12 years old and we’re getting 5-6 eggs a day and they’re very tame.
We would be bringing their two portable coop/run with us in a U-Haul.
The concern is we cannot...
I have Rhode Island hens that started laying around 23 weeks old.
I have Wynadotte hens that are around 25 weeks old and are not laying. Side note they move the fake eggs all over.
Some strange behavior with my three layers.
Last week I switched them over to layer pellets from crumble feed. The last couple of days they have been tipping over the large feeder.
The only time I have seen this behavior in the past is when the feeder is just about empty.
I should mention...
we Got our first egg from our red sex link chickens. It was not very big. A little smaller than our two fake eggs.
A couple days ago my wife found one of the fake eggs in the coop run. She was all excited. Well I got the real thing.
these chickens ended up digging a giant hole. All theee are just sitting in the hole. Never saw this behavior before.
These specific chickens normally are not able to free range because they live most of the time someplace else without a yard.
My ‘free range’ chickens have never done this.
I have 5 month old chickens that I assume are close to laying. So I bought them layer pellets (never used pellets until now.) chickens not too enthused.
Since I traveled to the feed store that is a distance away I decided to buy a large bag grit since it is abiut 60% cheaper than the small bags...
Hey as a Pastor I finally can do some potty talk.
I noticed today that it seems like my chickens chicken poop is much longer/bigger than what I have seen before. Maybe just first time noticing or seeing it before they walk through it and it gets mixed into the shavings.
Does the poop look...

These are red sex link chickens at four months old.
I have concern because based upon what I am thinking that two of them are turning out to be roosters.
What do you think
I let my chickens free range for about 30 minutes.
Afterwards I put them in coop run and give them vegetables. Carrot chunks, cabbage leaves, leafy greens.
Do I need to also put grit in the run? I am assuming not since I assuming they get some dirt while grazing and the run has soil.
Am I wrong?
We have four red sex links that are 3 months old. They have been in an outside coop for the last month.
We got the yard set up a week ago so they can now free range a couple hours a day.
We have to keep the coop closed because they rather eat their feed than free range. They will walk around...
