Anyone in the DFW area of Texas who would like an older female runner? She still lays eggs, but she’s an older girl and so it’s not as regular.
My poor drake was killed today, and she is tragically all alone.
I went outside this morning and saw that my drake has what looks like an injury on his bill.
I thought maybe he had scraped it on the bottom of the coop where the hardware cloth meets the ground.
But I looked around and didn't see a disturbance.
Could this peeling back be a sign of something else?
I have heard that a drake can breed a chicken to death, but I am curious about what are the actual percentages that this occurs.
I have one drake and down to one duck unfortunately. I had a horrible predator attack that took out three ladies(ducks) a week ago. It was my fault. I thought that I...
Does anyone know if ducks can eat jujube fruit?
I'm planning on planting two jujube trees in the duckyard, for shade for the ducks and fruit for me. But These trees will most certainly drop fruit. I aim to do my best to remove the fallen fruit, but I'm sure I won't be able to get them all right...
Does anyone know if lotus is toxic or not for ducks? There is a portion of the run that stays completely muddy, and unlike water lilly, lotus can be grown in just muddy soil instead of floating water. I thought it might be fun and perhaps attract insects for them to eat whilst in their run. And...
Well yesterday was a tough day.
My dog Pookie is usually very good with the ducks. However last evening whilst Pooky was peacefully eating a duck egg in the yard, Vlad decided it would be amusing to come up behind her and goose her.
Pooky got spooked and nipped at Vlad before realizing what...
I want to plant a non invasive and highly fragrant honeysuckle(Lonicera percilyminum) near the Duck Run, to not only offer them mid-day shade (as it climes over the roof) but a nice floral fragrance for me and the bees.
But, in one place I read that honeysuckle is toxic to ducks. Then In...
Alright, before everyone gets mad at me I want to assure you that this was not my decision. My partner decided to spray weed killer in my backyard. I was assured that it was not spread anywhere near the duck coop.
I have kept my ducks inside their coop and have not allowed them to free-range...
I think one of my black runners laid her first egg today, because it is a dark grey color. None of my chocolate runners every laid this color before. Is it normal for a black runner to lay this color, or does it mean she has a bit of Cayuga somewhere on her genetic line?
My Grandfather made this metal bird garden-ornament when I was a child. I inherited it when he passed almost four years ago, and often I forget that it is even there as it is tucked away in the rose bushes. Anyhow, I have had this ornament way before I even considered getting ducks; however, now...
Would you say that wood mulch is too hard or rough for duck’s feet in a run that has a hardware cloth roof and is exposed to the weather?
I figured one of y’all out there have tried this. We’ve had so much rain lately and the run is a tad muddy. They still have their covered roof coop that is...
I’m thinking about planting my Changsha mandarin tree in my duck’s open air run. I know that they aren’t supposed to eat citrus fruit, but do you think that eating the leaves are going to be a problem? Do you think they will even want to eat the leaves, because the leaves smell like the rinds of...
I have some pretty Black Runner Drakes(Hatched out on July 4th) that need a good home still. Free for the taking. Daddy was a good boy. If you live outside of the DFW area, we could arrange to meet 1/2 way. Let me know. The little drakes are just starting to get their colors. I'm including a...
I had hatched 8 eggs this summer, and it looks like 6 are black runner drakes. Unfortunately I will have to re-home 4 to 5 because I now only have 5 female runners and limited on the size of flock due to convenance. The father drake was a calm cucumber with lots of personality, which is why when...
OK. I had hatched 8 eggs this summer, and it looks like 6 are black runner drakes. Unfortunately I will have to re-home 4 to 5 because I now only have 5 female runners and limited on the size of flock due to convenance. The father drake was a calm cucumber with lots of personality, which is why...
I need advice.
I hatched 8 little black runners, and they are about a month give or take. I also have three chocolate runners that are 1+ years old. The coop is 8x16 and the adjoining run is 11x16.
When I moved the ducklings outside the older ducks were quite mean, so I created a small little...
Ugh. I just found two black widow spiders hanging onto the roof of my duck coop.
I thought at first I could scoop them into a mason jar, lid it quickly, and then toss out into the area beyond my fence.
As the mason jar gently touched the web, the black widow scooted quickly to the side which...
So, I have raised ducklings before that came in from the mail.
The brooder I had then was set-up in the guest bathroom, as it was the only place safe and out of the way. When cleaning I would scrape off all the wood chips that I could and put it into the trash, but occasionally the smaller...
I candled three of the eggs that I put in the incubator on 6/4/19. I have been still adding eggs to the incubator over the last week until today. One of the original three had a reddish ring around the midline of the egg's center circumference. I am assuming that one is dead. Two other eggs...
