Will they kill and eat each other? There is no way for anything to get into my coup. I have lost 15 chickens in 5 months. Two ast night. One gal is limping. I shot three ferrel cays the last two days. It is becoming a nightmare. I have walked in several mornings early, just at light and found...
I have two chickens that decided that they no longer want to roost at night in the coop. They roost in a weeping Birch tree right by the front porch. The tree is about 7 feet tall. As soon as it gets light out, they head back with the rest of the flock. No idea why they decided they like this tree.
I own a very extensive tree and shrub nursery. I also grow garden veggies. I use neem oil to fight the chewing bugs on my plants.
Now that the chickens are older they free range. They have found my veggie garden. They do not bother the plant but they do a very good job of eating the bugs. They...
I know it means time to worm them, but do I need to toss the eggs. Also, not many places in my area that carry anything for chickens. Other than DE what works. My grandparents always used DE.
My RI's started lating today, I got 5 total, one was pale white with a brown spot on it instead of completely brown. I thought Rhodies laid large eggs, these are small.
I have one out of 20 RIR's they are about 6 months old. One of them has become a loner and limps. She walks ok but runs with a limp. Still can't catch her to see what the problem is. Couple of them are squating when I get close to them....about that time,,,but they have decided the nest box in a...
My Rhodies are about 5 months old. They do not seem to even be interested in the lying box, except as a perch, even though it is extremely hard for them to get on the sloped roof they still mange for a bit. No egg laying yet.
Chickens are going on 4 months old. I had to buy a different brand crumble than I normally get. It was Sunday and the feed stor was closed so I got a bag at tractor supply. They are not eating like the used to. I also started letting them free range, they love it. Just wondering if I should...
The chicks are now almost 3 months old. Finally got them trained to run free during the day and go to the coop at night. They follow me like I'm the mother hen. But they still rely on the crumbles. They wont go scratch around and find new things to eat. I have ahuge compost pile full of bugs and...
I moved the chicks to their coop a little over a week ago. They are about 7 weeks old. They absolutely refuse to leave the coop and head out to the yard and do what chickens do. I have tried food but no dice.
I have found that my 7 week old chicks favorite place to be is in my compost pile. They work it over pretty good searching for bugs and worms. I get my compost turned over daily for free and I don't have to do it.
When I was a child, about 35 years ago, I remember my grandfather giving the chickens all of the table scraps. My chicks are about 6 weeks old now, would hurt to give them left over salad mix?
This AM, the farmer down the road offered to give me some guinea chicks. I have never raised them. Are they similar to raising chickens? He has about ten Whits guineas he said I can have. he has way to many.
I got the birds outside for about a half hour today it is only 40 but the sun is out, finally, after 3 days of rain. They didn't do much for about 15 minutes, they just huddled together. But then one of them found a worm and the chase was on.....poor worm went through a brutle beating at the...
I live in Indiana way out in the boonies. When it is dark it is dark there are no street lights way out here. The farmer down the road was telling me that adult chickens can not see all that well so it is nice to keep a light on in the coop so they cac see what the are doing....
