I have 30 chickens currently in our LF coop. I would like to what types of feeders others use with this sized flock that doesn't waste the feed all over the ground. Prices of feed are not getting any better and I need to be frugal. My flock free ranges all day for added information.
These two I call the twins. Got them together and haven’t quite determined their personalities yet. BUT, what’s with the difference tail feathers? One is kinda looking like roo’s tail feather (curved) while other seems like all the other pulleys? She doesn’t have a larger comb or the saddle...
This little one was only 2 out of 8 eggs I received in the mail. Had a saddle sac but developed quite nicely up till hatching day? I candled at day 20 (other egg had hatched) so I thought for sure this one would be right behind her. Egg was pretty full compared to air sac, I saw no movement...
We have this single lil one hatched under a broody hen. Started with 8 eggs, only two passed the 18 day test and this one is only hatched. Wondering if we have an Ana or Oleg? ( granddaughter had the task of naming) :celebrate
:weeI've got piping!!!! Stella has been sitting on 2 eggs since lockdown Saturday. I've checked on her daily, candled them day 18, still movement although my bantam seems very small in the egg and has a saddle air sac so not sure if he will be ok? BUT the cuckoo polish has broken the shell on...
I just received BBS Bantam Ameraucanas eggs along with polish hatching eggs. Does anyone have pics of this chicken AND how to they fare with standard sized chickens?
This is JaLo, who was sold to me as a Olive Egger pullet. Next to her is one of the "twins" I call them because I can't tell them apart yet :lau what breed and/or gender do you think she is?
Hello :frow wanted to jump right in! I will soon to be the proud mother of 6 polish eggs. Hoping to receive Khaki & Cuckoo colors? I have a broody hen right now, her name is Stella, she is a Golden Laced Wyandotte, fat and sassy and if memory serves me 2 seasons old. Never in my wildest...
I have a Golden Laced Wyandotte that has gone broody. I have always wanted to hatch chicks and figured I'd try this year. I've ordered 8 polish eggs that will arrive early next week, at the latest Tuesday. Once I place the eggs under her, how long should I wait before I move her? I don't...
Maude, will be 10 weeks old tomorrow. I've noticed some feathering that could indicate she is not a she but a he. Is it possible to determine gender at this age? Her comb is very small, almost none existent so that is not going to help me at this point. Is she a he?
I have a lavender orpington chick that is approximately 2 weeks old and has not grown tail feathers like the other babies. This chick is kinda a loner and I wondered what other have experienced for sex of chick?
I have plans to add probably 4 silkies to my existing flock this spring. I know silkies don't roost like chickens but wondered if other could share how they set up a separate roosting area for them?.
I have a spitzhauben that is 3 1/2 weeks old. This child is the wildest baby I have ever had to catch!!!! Once I have a grip on her she settles down pretty much right away. So, I know it's the flight or get eaten syndrome but how can I ease the stress of catching her? My polish and EE (same...
Got two polish chicks from Rural King last Friday. The silver laced chick has a very pronounced top hat but the "buff polish chick" doesn't seems to have one? Is this a polish chick?
Last year my wonderful hubby built us our first run/coop. We foolishly thought it would end with phase 1 LOL. We've made a few modifications here and there but this I think is our final stage of construction. I hope everyone enjoy our journey to being owned by chickens.
Phase 1...
My golden comet is little more than a year old. She has started having "spells" where she stands in one spot, is clearly not feeling 100%, seem's disoriented like she's out of it. She is by far my best layer (almost every day) so it's noticeable when she doesn't lay an egg. Her rear seem's...
I have 3 12 week old chicks that are now roosting with the big girls. My husband built a new roosting bar to utilize as much space as possible. We have 5 1 yr old hens and the one lowest in the pecking order has been brutal to the chicks at night while all is trying to settle down. Last night...
I have a BR (Lucy) that has a foot paralysis for about 2 months. First thought was injury but i'm now leaning toward Merecks. She seems to be doing fine, lays almost daily, eats drinks no real issues so I'm just letting her be. I move her around the yard when I see she's struggling to get to...
Just recently.....maybe a week I've been finding broken eggs in the next box. Yesterday I found 3 eggs one of which was broken. So I left the other two in there only to discover later in the afternoon one had been broken (looked like a crack when you open an egg) so could the three newbies be...
