I’ve been wanting to get more chickens and was hoping one of my hens would go broody. Since none of them seemed interested I got 7 chicks from McMurrays. Now my hen is brooding 🙃 chicken Math at its finest!
once my new chicks hatch do I need to add chick food to the coop? Can I leave them in...
This might be a dumb question but I would love to have some chicks and would really like for a hen to start brooding at some point. Do I need to do anything to “encourage “ that or will they automatically just start to be broody? I have 7 hens and 1 rooster.
We had to rehome our chickens after one of our neighbors complained that we are outside of the chicken zone. It’s really sad considering that you really have to look into our backyard to even have seen our girls. The lady from the county who came by suggested I write to the board of supervisors...
My chickens have been laying for about 3 months now without any problems. I just cleaned the coop and found 2 soft-shelled eggs. I have 5 chickens: 3 Golden Comet and 2 Black Australorp. I know the soft ones are coming from my Australorp (I had 3 perfect ones from my Golden Comets this...
We just got back from a weekend away and checked on the girls. We had 10 eggs :celebrate (we have 5 hens). I’m so excited!! Now I have to figure out some good recipes because I can’t wait to taste these eggs.
i have a bit of a weird question: to make our coop fully predator proof I know I have to put something in the ground so nothing can dig in. I have a lot of vinyl siding left over - would I be able to dig that in the ground?
Today we let our 5 week old out in the outdoor coop for the first time. It took them a little to come down the ladder but it seems they’re loving scratching in the dirt once they were down.
Question: do you recommend for them to go in the brooder in the garage at night? Do I still need to dig...
I've read that we can mix oats in with the chick starter (on top of the brewer's yeast) for the ducklings food. Are old fashioned rolled oats ok? And if yes, how much do I add to the food.
Thanks in advance!
we spent all weekend building our duck coop from wooden pallets we got for free. All we need now is paint and our ducks to grow enough to move in. It’s maybe not 100% even all over but we’re still pretty happy with it!
we added 3 ducklings to our mix yesterday I know they’re ok to eat the chicken starter with the Brewers yeast added and need water. My question is: if I add anything to their diet such as small cut grass, diced egg or peas (?) do I need to add a bowl of chick-size grit to the brooder as well...
I was wondering if you repurpose an old plastic playhouse into a duck coop if I closed the windows and door with some kind of wire to make it predetor safe?
So we just got 6 chicks last Friday and are now thinking that we want to add some ducklings to the mix. I am looking at the Buff ducklings at Meyer Hatchery.... Can anyone tell me if that is a good first-timer breed? The description reads "very hardy and friendly" which sounds like a good...
We got our baby chicks last Friday from TS (golden comets). I'm not quite sure exactly how old they are since this is our first time (and I didn't think to ask). When can I add boiled egg to their diet? Should I even add anything for the first couple of weeks?
Thanks for your help!
Good evening,
My name is Thekla and I live with my husband and our two kids in Virginia. We just got our first chickens ever and are super excited! We got 6 golden comet chicks from Tractor Supply last Friday.
We’re really excited about watching them grow and I’m glad I found this site for...
