We just hatched our first backyard flock and we have no clue which rooster was with which hen. But this one chick looks like it has a beard, so EE chicks have beards from the start? We have 3 roosters and 1 is a EE so we knew there was a chance but he’s not a mounty so we weren’t sure how many...
My 5 month old ginger broiler and big red broilers are laying soft shelled eggs. But today I got a weird double yolk soft shell from one and I’m wondering if it’s the breed or possible infection. They are new to laying but it’s been going on for 2 weeks now. Finally pinned it down to who. The...
Not sure on what breed this Roo is. We got the bargain special from Murray mcmurray, we know all the other Roos breeds but not this one. My closest guess is a RIR but my other 2 RIR are much more traditional in the copper orange coloring, not like this brown one. Any ideas?
I had 4 fertilized eggs. my broody hen hatched 3 of the eggs day 19 and I made the mistake of not separating her and the babies were killed. Now this last egg hasn’t hatched, it’s day 22, and last night she left the egg and roosted all night. This morning she’s back on the egg. Not sure my next...
ive got 2 broody hens, a game hen and a dorking. Both have been good broods so far but we’re 1 Day from hatching and my 3rd half broody hen (buttercup chicken) I think killed one of the first hatchlings. And now both my broody hens are sitting in the same box. I removed the buttercup and put her...
I cracked my eggs as usual and 1 of the yolks was not as rounded on the top, and alittle wrinkly, almost like it was slightly deflated. I tried whisking with a folk and not sure if it was that wrinkled egg or not but 1 of them wouldn’t break up like my other egg yolks were. Pic is showing what...
I just finished building my new coop for my 10 girls. They are 8 months old and have been laying for 3 months. In their old coop some roosted outside of it and others inside but the inside coop roosts were on the floor so they didn’t have to jump up inside. (Cheap tractor supply coop, that...
Do I have to wait for pine bought from the store to dry before painting? We will be buying the untreated pine wood today and building the coop this week. Would I be able to paint it before the chickens go in? I know pressure treated in Florida can take up a while to dry out but idk about...
Olive colored egg in question. It was her first egg, and all other eggs posted in pics are from other hens I watched lay and are their first eggs too. It looks almost brown in one pic. Added a pic of my the beautiful girl that laid it cuz I love her! ❤️
I have gotten my first eggs this week, I’m at a total of 5 in the last 3 days. They are all blue eggs but they seems to change from blue to green/blue the next day. It’s weird. It’s like the color is fading as they age on the counter.
I’ve got a brain game for you all hahaha So I labeled them so there isn’t confusion since egg 3 got broken this morning. 1 and 2 were found last night at 6 pm and were laid sometime after 10am yesterday morning, egg 3 was laid at 10:30 am today and egg 4 was at 3 pm today. I know for sure whom...
2 questions.
We got our first egg Sunday, no eggs since and then today some time after 10am we got 2 eggs. Both look exactly like the first egg so idk if they are from the same chicken or not. Can the same chicken lay an egg 2 times in a day?
Also the one egg on the left has this white...
How easy would this be to convert to a coop? It’s made of cedar and we’re in Florida so my plan was to paint it and build some sort of flooring. Anyone have an tips for success? Is it worth it? Price is $150.
Do comb color vary by breed? Like let’s say an EE combs is a lighter red than let’s say a Wyandotte’s comb. I know all hens combs are supposed to be bright red when healthy and laying but are their slightly different tones to the red with certain breed?
My girls are all 23 weeks old. I can’t tell if their combs are red or pink? They do change colors with exertion, some I know for sure are pink and still dry looking but others I’m not sure. These girls pictured all have had color changes in the last month but I’m not sure if it’s as red as they...
FiFi is a 5 month old EE and her comb and wattles started growing like crazy and turned red about a month ago. She squatted for me yesterday morning in a way that seemed like I scared her. She just kind of jumped into the position and froze. I was squatting myself just reaching out and letting...
My buttercup is 20 weeks tomorrow and in the last few week the combs and waddles have changed! It’s so amazing and I know this is a sign of maturing sexually and hopefully be getting some eggs soon. But I just wanted to post and show what exactly a 2 week difference is.
Top 2 pics are at 18...
All my chickens combs look like this, dry, like they need some lotion, even their legs do. No other issues I’ve noticed. All 10 hens are 4 months old. We’re in Florida and normally have a humidity of 70% and it’s been very dry recently so Idk if that has something to do with it.
Stoop- 10 weeks
I can only assume this is an EE, wondering if it could be a whiting true blue (ordered some from McMurray on top of my ornamental layer) but more so wondering if it’s a roo or pullet? What do you all think?
Also it’s so hard to photograph a black flighty bird hahahahaha
