Sorry if that's a dumb question, but apparently there are more breeds that I don't know than ones I do know. Are there different kinds of cochins like there are different kinds of orpingtons?
These are my first bantams, and I don't even know how big they get. I have two polish in there, and...
I've got a bunch of pips, but only one zipped this morning so far. It's been about 8 hrs since I noticed they pipped, so they probably did sometime before I woke up this morning. But none of the others has made any progress. I've been able to see the ones beak for the last 8 or so hours, but the...
I had some rocking today, then I decided to be an idiot and try to quickly but gently move the incubator. The eggs rolled everywhere, but none of them cracked. I quickly spread them out again, but there's been no other progress, unless they are moving so slightly I can't tell....
It's my first time incubating. We are finally at lockdown. I don't have a thing that measures humidity, and the hovabator says to fill up the second trough at lockdown. So that will be enough? When would I start seeing condensation?
It looks similar to dogwood berries or honeysuckle berries, but I think the leaves are different. My boys were playing at the edge of the yard, and I hope he didn't eat one.
We have a TSC coop. For now, we are using it as a transition coop. So I put the chicks outside during the day usually, but last night I decided to try them overnight. This morning I went out to check on them...
That was not like that at all. This is still a brand new coop.
Idk if you can see it...
My chicks are on room temp now, and they were roosting on top of the ecoglow, so it's filthy, and I need to clean it up for the chicks coming out of the incubator soon.
Do I just use warm water and a rag, or can I spray a little bit of Lysol on it to disinfect it?
First time incubating. It's day 14. There's nice, big veins, and everything looks like what it's supposed to look like for day 14. Is it necessary to candle again on day 18, or is everything go for hatch?
I'm getting hung up on technicalities. I currently have a flock of dual purpose breeds, but I'm thinking about switching over to egg layers and bantams. So I have easter eggers coming out of the brooder in a week or two, bantams and a couple polish incubating. Plus, (omg) next month I have a...
It's my first time incubating. We're on day 10 now. Of 15 eggs, 12 have obvious development and movement. They are all light eggs. Then I have two olive eggers and one black copper maran.
One olive egger appears to be a dud, but in person looks like it has/had an air sac. The other olive egger...
"He's" a butter color, with a hint of orange fuzz in the shoulders, has the shortest wing feathers of all of them, and is the only one who hasn't started tail feathers yet. I'm sorry if the pics suck, but they are skittish, so I was trying to be covert.
I know some you can tell by feathering or feather patterns, etc...Do any of the "just for fun" methods apply to EE's?
I know it's too early, but I love to drive myself crazy. I have a suspicion that the light one on the left is a rooster....Any idea?
Edited because autocorrect
I'm waiting on some fertile eggs, and I just bought this incubator. My husband set it up, and the temp screw is turned all the way up and after 10 or 15 minutes the temperature still won't go above 92. I'm not really sure how to fix that.
I'm not sure if I am over thinking it. And can't figure out if I want to add bantams along with EE's, or what.
I currently have a mixed flock of dual purpose chickens. They are all mature and laying well. Last fall something got my rooster, so I know I want to replace him.
My husband recently...
So I got a duck and two brahmas a couple weeks ago, and I have no idea what sex any of them are. I'm hoping one of the chicks is a rooster. The only thing I've been able to find online is that with brahmas, the female usually feathers faster. Can anyone verify that?
They're only 5 or 6 weeks...
First.....I think either something (a snake) is getting my eggs, or my chickens are too stressed to lay.
And second....Either my rooster is hurting the hens, or something else is trying to.
Initially we'd been leaving the pop door open so the chickens could go out in the morning on their own...
Today is day 21 since two of my hens started consistently setting. I had decided to just let them brood and see what happens. I know some of the eggs we had been collecting were fertilized, but I have no idea how many of the eggs they are sitting on were....
So I didn't realize that the other...
I'm not sure how active this section is but hopefully someone can help.
This is my first year gardening, ever. My special talent is killing houseplants that are marketed as hard to kill. My house is brand new on land that is clay, with a little bit of topsoil here and there. Basically starting...
