I just hatched 17 mixed chicks! I'm curious what color they will feather out to. I know it depends on lots of things, but best guess?
I have a pretty good idea what the solid black and black with yellow will be, but what about these?
I have 1 8m old brahma, 4 6m old barred rock/gamefowl mix, and 1 older peruvian gamefowl. I have yet to see any eggs from the younger ones. The peruvian, who is mama hen to the 4 used to lay in the coop but absolutely will not do it now. I have tried leaving them in the enclosure for a month...
The back of her comb looks almost burnt off. It is black and just kind of hanging there. This is probably the most color I've seen in her comb since I got her, but I've never noticed any black before. She has 6 week old chicks, and I think she's just getting over her broodiness. She's acting...
Do any of you smart people know if the head spot trick works if only one parent (the rooster) was a Barred Plymouth rock? Not exactly the same but some have undefined spots and some seem to have no spot. I know they arent black sex links since dad was barred and mom was solid black(ish).
I know it's not great picture quality. The only reason I care is because the hen that laid this keeps disappearing and I think she may be sitting on eggs in the woods. If they are fertile I will leave her be, but if it's not I want to make sure I find them so that she doesn't continue to sit on...
We bought a Peruvian hen from a friend a few weeks ago. We were told she is about a year old and has been laying well. At first she kept her distance from us and the other chickens. We've had her 2 weeks now and she's becoming more a part of the flock and social, but still wont let humans get...
After talking about getting chickens for years and always getting talked out of it, we finally started our own little flock! Really my kids claim them as their babies, so I'm grandma.
We had awful luck with our first pick of straight runs. 5 boys, one girl and she ended up being a meat bird. So...
We got chickens originally because we wanted to have fresh eggs. We gambled on straight run for our first 6. Ended up with 2 cornish x which were labeled as something totally different and 4 barred rock. 5 out of the 6 chicks are boys and the pullet is a cornish x! 😭
So we went to get pullets...
Anyone know what kind of chickie this baby is? She was labeled as "russian orph", whatever that is 🙄. The guy said Orpington, but I'm not so sure about that either 🤷🏼♀️
