    Grit and oyster shells

I have roosters with my hens so feed growers pellets . I did put mixed grit and oyster shells in seperate dish but it kept getting dirty and covered with straw so it’s been better putting a clump of both with their food - as it’s replenished daily . Is this ok? How much mixed grit and oyster...

When will my budgie come out of his age ?

I have had a budgie for a month and he will let me put my hand in his cage but he won’t come out. In the short time I have had him , his friend has died ( don’t think he was well from the day I got him as a sleepy budgie ). Do you think he will come out eventually or is he depressed too because...

Hi I have 2, four month cockerels living with hens and pullets. For the majority of the time all seem to get on ok but first thing in the morning they try to mate and cause a fuss. Would I cause problems if I put them both into a seperate run for a few hours in the morning and put them back in...

    Peking bantam cockerels aggression

Hi, I have two, 3 month peking bantam cockerels living with peking bantam hens and a b’duccle. Originally I was concerned the cockerels were going to be aggressive towards each other , but my new concern is that they are both trying to jump on the b’ duccle - probably as she is the smallest ...

    Mating or fighting ?!

So I have a 13 week peking bantam cockerel . This morning he grabbed hold of one of the bossy hens ( about a year old) grabbed her comb then jumped on her back. Was that a fight or did he mate with her? It lasted about a second ? New to cockerels and their behaviour!!!

    Best floor for run?

Hi , I have two enclosed runs . The old one is sheltered and straw works best on floor as it stays pretty dry - so just collect poop daily and chuck more straw down. In my new run , it has a roof but more exposed to the elements. Grass will be destroyed in a few days , what would you recommend...

    Roosters food

Hi, what should roosters eat? Originally I was planning to set up a bachelor pad for my 3 roosters but the situation changed and now they will be living with hens. I have read that the extra calcium in layers pellets is bad for them so what should they eat if living with the hens ?

    Gender?

Hi , does anyone think there is a chance this white peking bantam is a girl ? I have assumed boy as wattles and comb have grown bigger than other pullets - but they are still smaller than the black one that definitely looks like a boy ! Any thoughts?!

    Starting bachelor pad

Hi what’s the best age to seperate the cockerels and create bachelor pad ? I have 13 chickens in total - 5 of which baby chicks ( 7 weeks old)- 3 of which boys. The chicks live in same enclosure as the Older hens just separated with fence - so can fly over if really want. One of cockerels has...

    Cockerel chicks

Hi, seeking some advice! I currently have 8 peking bantams hens . One was broodie so let her hatch some eggs. Think 3 are male, but one is a salmon faverolle . Could the two peking bantams cockerels and the salmon faverolle cockerel live separately together?
