Something has been eating our koi in our pond and we could not find out what. Today our guineas alerted us to a problem at the pond. A mink! It is no longer a problem at the pond. Our guineas surrounded it and it was dispatched.
I may have a problem brewing. I have two guinea mama's with keets in the guinea coop. I keep them in there by themselves during the day with no other guinea allowed inside until lockup. So now the other female guineas have started laying their eggs in the duck coop. No big deal I thought...
My guineas went broody on 05/09 and 2 more on 05/20. The one we call mama hatched the first one today! Hope more hatch for her in the next couple of days. She hatched out 4 last year, but is laying on a lot more eggs this year.
One of my Pekin ducks went broody in the coop about 3/4 days ago. I always though they were supposed to be terrible mothers! Has anyone had luck with Pekins hatching and raising ducklings?
On 5/9/13 I had one guinea hen go broody in the coop. About a week age I had another one go broody right next to her.
And 3 days ago I had a Pekin duck go broody! Pekins are supposed to be the worst mothers ever.
Must be something in the water
I have mentioned in other posts that I had a hen go broody in the coop last year and she hatched out 4 keets. Well this year I have 3 hens laying in the coop and one went broody a few days ago. Here is a pic of her in the coop along with eggs in two other nest boxes. Maybe I will get more hens...
My guineas saved the day again! All my birds were out back (guineas, ducks, chickens) enjoying a nice sunny day when all of the sudden the guineas went crazy. I looked out the window and they were squawking like crazy at a coyote that entered the yard. I went to get my gun, but too late, they...
One of my female guinea started acting a little lethargic 2 days ago. Her waddles look fine but she just sits around and walks real slow. Went up on the roost in the coop yesterday, but when I locked them up tonight all the others were up in the roosts but she was still laying on the floor. I...
Anyone have any tips on how to introduce new ducks to a flock. Want to try to avoid any problems. Will my drake try and beat up any other males? Can more then one drake be in the flock? Thanks for any help.
Wanted to add a few ducks to my flock so took 10 duck eggs and put them in my incubator. Wanted about 4-5 more ducks. Well 9 hatched! A few more then I wanted.
Looked out the office widow today and saw 6 guinea around something on the ground. They never made any warning noises and could not make out what it was. Went outside and it was one of the guineas dead. Just saw them all 10 minutes ago and all were fine. Looked over the dead guinea and...
Well my guineas saved the day again. I was working in my office and my guineas really started making a racket. Knew the sound and knew something was wrong out in the yard. They were all over at by the woods and soon I saw a Raccoon wanting to enter the yard. Yelled out the window but the...
I purchased 2 White Leghorn hens at Tractors Supply this spring (was in the store and could not resist). They started laying this week and I am getting small/medium light brown eggs? Was expecting large white eggs. They look like White Leghorns, but now I am not so sure what they are...
Well a fox attacked on of my Guinea this afternoon. I heard all of them making a racket and saw him being attacked from the window. I yelled out the window, grabbed the shotgun and ran outside.
Lots of feathers! No fox. But the Guinea was alive but missing lots of feathers and bloody. He...
My guineas started laying and I was hopping one might go broody. Well that did not happen (they are only a little over a year old). When I went to TSC to get some pine shavings I saw an incubator on sale. I thought what the heck and bought it. Placed 29 guinea eggs in it on 4/21/11. Last...
Would appreciate some suggestions on getting rid of unwanted weeds, grass etc. without using chemicals that might harm my flock if they eat the treated vegetation. Anyone have any experience with this problem? The flock (ducks, chickens, guineas) all free range.
