This guy hatched late May this year, egg from Lisa Cree. Too many roosters, and I am going to focus on the Marans, so he needs a home. I will be in Canby this Saturday or Sunday (at Oregon Flock and Fiber) or we can meet in the Salem area. Would prefer not to ship. Thanks for looking!

Hatched these guys this spring out of my two pairs (Holderread's stock) and I have too many boys! I hand-raised them, they are friendly. My first time hatching Marans, I have 2 splash and 2 blue to choose from. I am leaning towards keeping a splash because I don't like the color on either of the blues. Here they are, they hatched April 24th, so are 14 weeks old. Rooster 1: Rooster 2: Both hatched out of a similar...

What should my duck eggs look like, candling day 19

I candled last night, am on day 20. Storey's Guide says to candle day 19 to check viability and get rid of dead eggs before they get stinky/explode. These eggs were all developing when candled day 8. They were dark, could see a few vessels and light shining through at the pointy end. The air...

    Goose eating paint?

Why is my goose nibbling the paint off the house? Is she missing something in her diet? Is she trying to drive me crazy? I feed her laying feed right now, plus free choice oyster shell and she free ranges during the day so has all the tasty grass she can eat, of many different types.

If I get an incubator without a humidity sensor...

I am on the verge of ordering an incubator (thanks, all you BYC enablers ), and it does not have a built-in humidity sensor/display. Can I buy one somewhere to put in? Which one works the best? I want to hatch duck eggs.

So I have 5 Pilgrim Eggs...

in a carton in the sunroom. Temperature in there between 45-55 degrees. They are pointed-end down. One end of the carton is raised about 45 degrees. I rotate which end is up about every 12 hours. Does this sound okay? There are two eggs in the nest outside. The goose is laying every other day...

Trials and Tribulations of the First Nest (about my geese, pic heavy)

Last week, I was awakened by a tremendous racket. I went downstairs and opened the front door to chase the pesky geese off the porch and was greeted by... one very tired young goose. About the most comfy nest I have ever seen! Her first egg! The proud boys paced back and forth (my drakes...

    Mortality rate of poults

Hello all! I'm thinking of venturing into turkeys (Bourbon Red) this spring, and will either order from Ideal or Sand Hill. I have raised chickens, geese and ducks. I have learned to expect to lose 1-2 chicks out of 25. I have read that poults are more fragile than chicks. What mortality rate...

Don't let the geese know where you live...

Because right now I am 15 minutes late with their dinner and they are chewing on the screen door and staring at me while the ducks mill around and quack. They sure are full of personality! Now they are eating the siding, time to go chase them off so that I can pretend not to be reinforcing this...

Dutch Hookbills and Pilgrim Geese, 6 months old

Here are some pictures of the gang taken today. I love October in Oregon. These are from Holderread's, hatched early April. I have spent a considerable amount of time this summer trying to"train" the geese to stay off the porch. Completely unsuccessful, geese are smart. I told them today that...

    Cockatiel question - egg laying

How do I get my two female cockatiels to stop laying eggs and setting? They are 7 and 9 years old, and have done this for the past 2 years, but this year it has gone on for at least a months so far. I worry about their health, getting egg-bound, etc. I have them in a large cage with newpaper...

My ducklings just tried to abandon me!

I went out to get my Pilgrim pair and the ducklings from the pond and the ducklings wouldn't follow. So I look a little closer and they are hanging out with a pair of Mallards. I try to call them and shake their food (I only feed 2x a day so usually they are running after me) and they swim over...

    Dutch Hookbills/Pilgrims 8 weeks (PICS)

They have discovered their destiny... I walk them to the pond each morning now for breakfast. The ducks would live out there, the geese stay until about 5 o'clock then the jump through the fence and come to find me or the cleanest walkway they can find to poop on. I would think that grass...
