Hello All,
I have one 8 month old Buff O that has gone broody. I read many posts on the subject.
I have her in a separate cage with just a wire bottom floor with a
plastic pan underneath and a roosting bar. Plenty of food and water.
This is the 4th day I have had her separated. I let her run...
I have just lost my first adult Orpington.
They are 7 months old.
There were 13 of them.
They are all laying eggs.
I cleaned the coop this afternoon. Out with the
old pine shavings and in with the new. I dusted down the walls
and Shop-vac ed everything.
Fresh water and food.
I just saw her...
Hello Group,
Now that my chickens are laying regularly and I am seeing
money accumulate from sales I wanted to cut
back on expenses by making my own pine chips for litter.
I chipped the equivalent of 2 bales yesterday and put it in the
Coop. The hens seemed to love it, lots of digging and...
I have a dozen Buff Orpingtons that I absolutely love.
They are 23 weeks old.
I am averaging 9 eggs a day now and they
are terrific to watch and easy to take care of.
So iv'e caught the hatch bug. I would love to have a next-gen
of these particular Orpingtons.
1. Where do I get ONE Orpington...
I have 12 of the nicest Orpingtons on the planet. They are about
22 weeks old.
But Number 13 is completely obnoxious..almost never shuts up
and screams bloody murder.
I watch her on my chicken-cam and she just walks around and yells.
Pick this..dig that..then screeeeeem
No..it's not a...
Our first egg and it couldn't have come at a worse time.
We had a barbecue going on. I let the Orps out at the same time
as usual and they were doing fine with the visitors except one
was hanging out near the garden.
My wife noticed the egg bulging out of the vent. It seemed stuck
and we...
SO...I got sick and tired of the Galvanized bucket-trough feeder and tried this.
I removed the handle from the first dustpan so they wouldn't perch
on it, then mounted it to the board with three right angle metal brackets.
The PCV mounted easily to the wall above.
The key to making it work is...
This picture is of my most mature hen. I am surprised by the differences between the 13 hens as far as physical maturity. None of the others have
as well developed waddles and combs.
I was looking at the "First Egg" thread and I noticed a picture with
Orpingtons at 19 weeks but mine already...
So.. I wanted a light weight, easy to move run. I thought I would try PVC
pipe.
Let me just say two words - Labor Intensive.
But I am very happy with the results. This didn't happen without a lot of
planning and using AutoCAD. I learned a lot about PVC.
One unexpected result is the "Boing"...
I finally have a small covered outdoor area for the hens.
But I can see they are definitely going to need a much bigger area
buy the time they are full grown.
Can you please respond with a picture or 2 of a PVC skeleton with
netting?
I have about an acre of open area where I could place and...
My neighbor just got 5 chicks.
They are 2 weeks old and very cute but he has no idea what
breed they are.
They are white. The head is white but almost a tint of green.
Tjhe tail is already very pronounced and upright.
Is there a chick picture gallery that I can look through to
see if I can...
Happy Memorial Day everyone.
God Bless our Veterans and God Bless America.
These are the first pictures I have of the hens out in the sunshine. I am still working on the run and I couldn't keep them in on such a nice day.
The feathers in the sunlight are absolutely beautiful.
The fuzzy butts...
