Does anyone know if Nystatin TABLETS are just as effective as liquid?
We have both. We requested pills from the vet since they are so much easier to give, but obviously we'll do the liquid if it's more effective.
(Our bird has seen a vet and been diagnosed w sour crop.)
Thanks!
Good morning all,
Our 2.5 year old cream legbar is having a mysterious issue. Her crop isn't emptying, but she is still eating throughout the day, so it must be going somewhere, right? She has seen a vet and been on antibiotics (first, SMZ-TMP for 10 days) and now Nystatin. The SMZ-TMP was for...
Hi all,
1.5 yr old dark Brahma was going thru her first molt when her crop slowed and became sour/doughy. Free choice grit and oyster shell, organic layer crumbles, not free range (ie no access to long grass or hay.)
Took her into the vet asap, bloodwork normal, X-ray normal, their guess was...
Hi all, my first time with BF.
She's a 1.5 yr old leghorn, noticed the lesion last night (pic 3316) . she's 1 of 9. 9 hens, 1 roo. Very clean coop. I soaked in epsom salt, removed brown plug with tweezer. I couldn't see anything else to remove--No "goo", "cheese", blood, etc. Just a dark, hard...
Year old leghorn, happy as can be all day, normal behavior. flew down to the nest boxes at 10 pm. diarrhea, panting. Stumbling, wings out.
We fear the worst and have her headed to the vet. Any idea of something super super acute (she was fine two hours ago, rest of the flock seems fine) that...
Hi all,
Feeling at the end of my rope with my first flock. It’s always something! Any advice appreciated.
1 yr old salmon fav hen, flock of 8 hens and one rooster. Plenty of space, organic green mountain coarse layer feed, free choice oyster shell and grit.
She went broody for about a day...
Hi all,
11 month old buff orp, organic layer feed, free choice oyster shells, free choice grit. Flock of 9 hens, 1 cockerel, no prior issues except this egg situation. Very spoiled birds, lots of attention, enrichment, healthy snacks.
This buff had an healthy egg removed last Monday by a vet--...
Hi all,
So confused, I thought I posted this last night, but I'll try again.
11 month old buff orpington hen, free choice grit, free choice oyster shell. Green Mountain organic later feed. one of 9 hens, 1 cockerel. mostly normal eggs up until this time, some mottling (see pic.) Otherwise the...
Took my buff orp (11 months old) to the vet today since she was behaving "off"--tired, sitting more, eating less since yesterday afternoon-and they pulled out an egg that was partially blocked by a membrane. Everything else felt fine internally as per the poultry vet. No other egg showed up on...
Hi all,
We have a 10 month old easter egger who one second was fine, dustbathing, the next second we noticed she had the top of her beak cracked off. No other birds are going for it, but I can tell she's in pain. We cleaned with Veterycin, and are continuing to monitor. Honestly, it does seem...
Hi all,
I know a lot of iterations of this question are going around, but hoping I can be specific. She did run around a bit, dustbathe, but she's just "off" today. floofed up, more tired than usual, and one eye is closed, she wants to sleep standing up--she keeps tucking her head in I guess...
Hi all,
I've read a few threads on this, but it seems supported here:
https://hencam.com/henblog/2014/03/social-feather-picking/
Our hens free range, have a very large coop when they are not, plenty of space, toys, free choice food--essentially super spoiled as pets. But when it's dustbathing...
We have a 7 month old rooster who is a Green King-- VERY large, very beautiful, very demanding of his 9 hens. We did notice some feather loss on 3-4 hens so we put on hen savers and will do that to all the ladies if we need to. Seems like we might even need the shoulder attachments too.
My...
Hi all,
I've been posting on another thread for some time about our saga with chickens lead and zinc levels. We've done everything under the sun including trucking in multiple feet of new soil, we built the worlds most impenetrable run, etc, but they still managed to get into something. A few...
Hi all,
Since string is a concern, what about nesting pads?it seems like many are made of carboard/paper from aspen trees but the strands feel so tough I was concerned. Thanks for any input!
Despite being the most obsessive protective chicken parents ever…disaster has struck.
Our 6 month old cream bar leghorn seemed a bit lethargic so we took her to the vet. Vet found that there were small metal pieces in her gizzard. Looks a lot like buckshot. But while at the vet, she popped...
Anyone else have issues with Salmon Fav's losing leg feathers? I feel awful, our beloved bird keeps getting her new leg feathers and blood feathers pecked at--she's about 22 weeks old. We always clean the wound with salt water and vetracyn, clot it if needed, use Rooster Booster No pick, use...
