Our 2 day old silkie chick's feet are bent funny.
Could it be from the way it was sitting in the egg?
Is there any thing I can do to help straighten them?
It walks around ok, but It's such a cute chicky I'd like to try to help it.
You can see how they are bent in this pic
Here's the best...
I went out to the coop at 10:30am to take my chickens scratch treat and check on morning eggs.
And What to My Wondering Eyes Should I See , THIS
a round egg of all things.
Shell was cracked all around but inside is still intact...
Our Crazy Cochin layed it.
I have a chick that started pipping 2 mornings ago and only has a tiny hole big enough to get air thru. I'm afraid it may not be able to finish hatching. Could someone help me with whether to help it finish breaking the shell? I don't know if and how I should do this. Or if it's best not to...
Do you know how hard it is convincing a 69 y/o Mom and 65 y/o Dad that I needed an Incubator?
Well after losing a new Mille Fleur hatchling this morning I finally convinced Mom and Dad to let me get an Incubator. I told Mom if she wanted her Sultan hen's and Japanese Bantam's eggs to survive...
I tried to candle the 11 eggs I had to put in a makeshift nest, and I have a candling question.
8 of the 11 eggs that my broody hen walked away from the nest have dark mass in them and I can see the air sack. I see no movement and/or veining.
2 of the eggs I can see what looks like veins and/or...
I have a light yellow Silkie chick hatched on 3/30 and a brownish/grey chipmunk striped Silkie chick hatched 3/28.
I have pics of them but can't get them to send to my e-mail from my phone.
What color will they be?
I have 4 adolescent hens they are 7 months old (2 standard Cochin and 2 Barred Rocks). I gave 12 fertile eggs (from a friends chickens) to the cochin that acts broody. The eggs are 4 Silkies and 8 Mille Fleur D'Uccle.
The Cochin will raise the chicks in the coop run they are in...
So far 2...
I went out tonight to put our chickens in the coop. The dirt in our yard is a loose soil, and we have straw in the run also. The chickens on a daily basis move straw and dirt in the doorway to the coop. I have a garden shovel by the door to move the dirt/straw out of the way. Tonight I went to...
My mom's Sultan Melody laid her 1st egg today, we are hoping Sunshine her roo helped in fertilizing it. Melody got off the egg and just left it sit in the nest. When I noticed it, it was still warm, so I took it to the coop where our LF Que is broody and sitting on fertile eggs. While I was out...
I looked in the FAQ's to see if there was a question on garden plants/flowers and chickens.
Is there a list anywhere of Garden Plants/Flowers that are harmful to chickens? Or a list that's not harmful to chickens?
Please direct me to where I might find this info...
Thank You,
Kat
My broody and her 2 chicks left the nest today. There were still 10 fertile eggs in it. I removed the eggs and put them in a nest covered by a moist washcloth under a 100 watt brooder lamp.
If the lamp keeps them warm enough to continue developing to hatch I need to know a few things. I can't...
Our Cochin went broody last weekend, so tonight I got 4 fertile Silkie and 8 fertile Mille Fleur eggs from my chicken friend 2 miles down the road. Hatch, Hatch, Hatch We are hoping for a good hatching. She said the Silkie eggs are within a few days to 2 weeks from hatching. But no telling...
We have a BTB Japanese bantam that was hatched 10/13/2010 and we are wondering at what age she will start laying eggs.
She was accidentally put in our chick order, and we know nothing about her breed.
We have her in with our Sultan roo and hen, and if our roo mates with her we will have mixed...
We have a Sultan Roo and a Black-tail Buff Japanese Bantam, both in the same cage with a Sultan hen. I am wondering what chicks from the roo and jap bantam would come out looking like. Would we end up with a buff Sultan, a white Jap Bantam, or maybe a white and buff Sultan/jap bantam? If any of...
We lucked out today after a week of searching, and found Blaze our Blue Silkie Rooster a new home. He will be living with a lady who runs a Petting Zoo for parties and the Texas Scarborough Festival. Take a good guess where we will be going this April to May. We are going to miss Blaze he was so...
Well we are trying an intagration with my silkie Cinnabar. If it doesn't crow or it's crow isn't
loud Cinnabar will stay in with our 2 Barred Rocks and 2 Cochins. We have it in it's
hospital cage and will let it out as soon as I'm sure everything will be okay. I hope it works
out. Will update daily.
We just found there is a pair of hawks building a nest in our pecan tree. I'm not as much worried about the chickens they're in a enclosed run/coop. But we have a chihuahua and refuse to have it hurt.
How do we get rid of it, there is a endangered species law against killing them here?
Any...
Back on 1/09 I encountered my Silkie Cinnabar with what I found with the help of BYC friends to be Wry/Crook Neck.
And now after nearly 3 weeks following Alan Stanford's treatment Cinnabar is doing so much better.
I'm nearing the end of the last week of the treatment and below is a pic of how...
My 12 wk old Silkie Cinnabar started having neck problems Saturday
morning. It started out slightly leaned to the side, but at midnight it's
almost looking upside down. What if anything can we do to help it?
One of my large fowl had a similar problem Christmas eve, but it
massaged out. What...
