Here are seven Wheaten/Blue Wheaten/Splash Wheaten Ameraucanas. It seems like 3 are obviously boys and 3 are obviously girls, but #7 has me confused. I know it is darker, but it doesn't look the same as the other definite boys... thoughts? Could it be a darker female?
This little mixed chick is 6 weeks old... daddy was a Silkie, and mama is some unknown LF hen. I've never had Silkies before, and I'm totally in the dark with this little one. Any guesses are warmly welcomed!
These two are a week apart in age, and I have no idea what I've got... this is the first time I've ever had Leghorns.
#1: hatched 6/9/12 (10 weeks)
#2: hatched 6/2/2012 (11 weeks)
Everybody is super hot today, so please forgive the open mouths and whatnot. They all got...
My first ever incubated hatch just finished, and it was great. Most of the chicks hatched out on Friday & Saturday, but I had one not go until late Sunday. The chick is big, and seems okay in all other ways, but it has a few chunks of shell stuck to its back, and looks like a bit of pasty butt...
I have a Hovabator Genesis that monitors temperature & humidity. I put a digital hygrometer on my egg turner, and both the Genesis and the hygrometer were measuring pretty darn close to each other.
Today is lockdown. I took out the egg turner, laid out my remaining good eggs and put the...
Here's the three chicks my broody hatched on Monday the 18th:
Two were out of green eggs, and one was out of a brown egg. (It could have been from the White Rock broody, but in all honesty could have been from any of my other chickens... they do like to pile in the nest boxes.)
There are...
These are my friend's EEs. He's had people tell him that one is a roo, but I'm thinking they're both pullets. I think the fact that one is bearded and the other is not might be throwing him off.
I'm not sure of the exact age, but they are all very close to laying age. Do you guys see anything...
Georgia my CW started sitting in a nest-like depression in the coop shavings this morning. I didn't think too much of it. An hour later she was still there. (Some of mine like to take their sweet time laying, so again, I didn't start worrying.) After the second hour, I shooed her away and...
I have some new layers, and I'm having trouble figuring out exactly who is gracing the nest box... specifically I'd like to know who's laying that lovely dark egg! I haven't caught any of the new layers doing their thing, so I'm pretty stumped.
From L-R: Easter Egger, Salmon Faverolle, Barred...
If you're bored this evening, here's one more picture to look at:
Is this a White Plymouth Rock? I'm fairly certain she's one of my newest layers, and I'm trying to nail down egg color.
Thanks!!
I went out just now and took some more pictures... maybe these will help? He/she has a more spiky head than my White Crested Black Polish, but not nearly a s spiky/crazy as other Polish roos I've seen pictures of. I'm so confused...
My EE has been laying for about 2 months, and her eggs have been terrific. Yesterday's egg, well...
One of her normal eggs is shown for comparison. Any ideas what those weird bumps are? They are hard and shell-like. Looks like she had some sort of color malfunction, too!
How often do roosters attempt to mate with hens in a single day? (I'm just wondering what's normal/average; my rooster seems a bit "randy"!)
I did kind of poke around the internet for this info, but all the search results that came back made me feel like a pervert...
And it's so pretty!
I had two Barred Rocks laying well, and then I *think* my Salmon Favorelle started the other day. Same color as the BRs, but smaller & lighter. I'm so glad it was very easy to tell when Brownie started up!
My two Barred Rocks have been laying for about a month and a half now. I keep pretty detailed egg records, and they lay a 1.7 oz to 1.8 oz egg almost daily. Today I saw one of them come off the nest, and she'd laid a tiny egg - I weighed it, and it's only 0.7 oz. (Looks otherwise normal; just...
I am fostering my friend's flock, as she has some unchecked predator issues going on. All but #1 are from My Pet Chicken and are between 8 and 9 weeks old. I am about as far away from a chicken breed expert as you can get, but I'd love to know what's staying with us for the foreseeable future...
I just got three (hopefully) pullets today from my friend; they are all six weeks old. I'm assuming one is a Barred Rock, but I have no idea what the other two might be. Any guesses?

Thanks so much for any help!
I had my extended family over on Sunday, and we cooked up 14 eggs that my Barred Rocks have been laying. WOW! These were so tasty and wonderful I couldn't believe it... I LOVE having my own fresh, organic eggs! Everybody thought they were incredible.
Pics or it didn't happen, right?
Now...
I have three youngsters, hatched around 5/1/10. Two are Barred Rocks, and have started laying in the last two weeks. (I have eight small but lovely eggs!) As all of my eggs are light brown, I don't believe that my EE has started laying yet.
With the BRs, it was easy to watch their combs &...
