I got my chicks today - the rainbow assortment from Meyer. I got 7 chipmunk chicks. As far as I know they could be welsummer, light brown leghorn, speckled Sussex or Easter Egger? They all have pointy combs. 4 of them are more black on the back and their feet and beaks are more pink than tan...

4 day old lethargic eyes closed

I have a 4 day old Cochin chick that was being taken care of by its mother. I went out there tonight and the chick was cool and lethargic. Its crop is huge. I really don't think it's going to make it but I was wondering what I could try. I have it under a light and tried some sugar water. I've...

Scared my brooder is too hot -- update and another question

I have 3 day old chicks in a watermelon box on my glass porch. This is where I always keep my chicks but I've never had them this late in the spring. It is 96 outside today, and I'm scared it's too hot in the brooder. The thermometer says 94, and the light is off and has been since before lunch...

    BO cockerels?? 5 weeks

Well I got three BO pullets but I now think I have one pullet and two "pullets" (roos). Please tell me I'm wrong. One of them has a healing after being pecked THROUGH a dog kennel I had them in in my coop (in which live two other 10 week old pullets, a year old hen, and an 8 month old rooster)...

Is the bus coop worth a shot?

I have a great chicken coop but now it's not big enough. Surprise! Doesn't this happen to most of us?! We have this old bus on my husband's grandfather's land, and I'm thinking we might try it out! It was my husband's idea, and it might just have potential... what do y'all think? Clean it out...

Just bought pullet, now sneezing and extending neck.

I'm new to chickens and have a lot to learn. I bought mine as chicks and have never had a problem. They are 8 months old. But I wanted a few more and found an ad for some "healthy" welsummers. I picked them up yesterday and talked to the seller about their health. I wanted to make sure that they...

    Hello from south Georgia!

My name is Ashlee, and I'm a new member -- obviously. I am new to chickens. After wanting them for forever, my husband finally built me a coop, and my 5 chickens are 8 months old. I bought them as 2 day old chicks from a locally-owned feed store who uses a good hatchery, and I have had no...
