Due to the little chick bleeding last night and slimed everything in the bator
most of the other chicks who should be dry and fluffy are dry but not fluffy due to being slime.
Would them not getting fluffed out cause any problems with them keeping warm when
they go in the brooder? Make them peck...
As long as it's rinses super well is ok to use diluted bleach to clean an incubator that is styrofoam?
Or would it be to pourous and keep some of the bleach in it and then
become a danger to the next hatch?
Just had a chick hatch on it's own. Darn it, here I am helping chicks out of eggs and the one to
all of a sudden hatch on his own with no help needed, well something is wrong with it.
Is the egg sack I hear folks talking about attached to the bottom area of a chick?
This little bugger took me...
My first hatch I had to help, the next I didn't and this 3rd one I do again.
I play over and over in my head the scenario's.
This hatch? Some are zipping and getting out, they seem to know what to do?
Others will pip and stop....period. next day same hole no progress. I help them out
(which I...
I did lockdown this evening around 10 pm meaning to check the temp in 20 mins, forgot and at 1:50 am almost 4 hrs later
just checked the bator for 4 hrs it's been at 94 to 95. Whats the chances they're still ok?
I am looking for the following breeds from quality stock.
BLRW, Light Sussex, Swedish Flower, blue laying Americaunas, bearded silkies (whites, blks, splash and buff)
White Plymouth Rock and Delawares.
Can be shipped or I can pick up from the following states
WA, OR, ID and Western MT and I'll...
Just curious what breeds folks feel are easier breeds to hatch and which ones seem harder to hatch?
I hear BLRW shipped eggs don't do so well. Was wondering what other breeds are tougher and what
are easier. Tell us about your experiences.
After that first disaster try at hatching I forgot to mention I hatched 8 of 11 eggs
and now have 6 new Light Sussex chicks and 2 BCM chicks as of Friday and Saturday.
Those little Sussex babies are so much more active than the BCM.
Is that normal.
Keep your fingers crossed for me a couple...
I have been real ill with an awful throbbing head ache, real tired, low fever (highest was 100.2)
Have any of you experienced this and found it due to being around hatching eggs?
Opening up quiters? Opening up dead in shell that were fully developed?
Opening up eggs that never developed but...
I have two brooders and one has 2 to 3 week olds and the other one week olds.
I now have one and two day olds that need to go in the brooder.
Do you think it would be ok to add the new babies to the week old brooder?
I was candling for lockdown tonight and thought one egg wasn't right.
The air sack was weird and there was a lot more space than all the others showing
in the bottom of the egg. It was different from the others.
I was told a bad egg in the bator can cause a the ones around it to died due to...
In the next couple days we have a few Lemon Cockoo Orptingtons, Black Copper Marans and some
Americauna's chicks coming from one person and some Lemons and BLRW chicks from another.
We're all excited about the new arrivals. Making a larger brood/coop cage this evening for them.
Just wanted to...
Just curious, if you get an egg that has a little crud on it do you wash, never wash or just tidy up a little?
If you wash how do you go about it and what do you use to wash the eggs with?
I've been candling this evening and have a couple of situations with the air sacks I'm a little
concerned about. was hoping some of the experienced folks can help me out.
Some have what looks like swooshy air sacks, when you move them a little it looks like the
air sack is fluid around it, not...
Two of the chicks that hatched yesterday are kind of gimpy, was wondering how one
can tell the difference between splay leg or just weak and gimpy.
The two in question only one has one leg that kind of sticks to the side a little.
Both walk gimpy, they were also lazy babies that wouldn't work...
Went to buy my first bag of chick started the other day and was totally floored that organic feed is double
normal food. I knew it would cost more but double?
What do you all feed and why?
My choice to feed organic was this, if I am going to eat their eggs and maybe butcher future offspring for...
Thought I would share this picture. My granddaughters have loved the whole incubation process
and I have a feeling these will be some very loved chickens.
I'm looking for some Blue Laced Red Wynodotte chicks (may consider eggs but prefer chicks)
If anyone has, or will have some coming up or knows of someone with some please post or PM me.
I'm looking for some of the best stock I can find. Thank you.
