I've been thinking of all the sayings we use in everyday speech that are related to raising chickens. Put all your chicken sayings down.
I just heard on another thread, "Birds of a feather, flock together"
The other night I was watching out the window and saw a male quail standing gaurd over his hens who were in my garden. He kept his eyes trained on my chickens. It was almost like he was gaurding them as well. It is nice to have another look out. How do wild quail and chickens interact?
Are the Aurcana the only green legged chicken? I have a mix breed and her legs are really green. What other breeds would have green legs? Do I have a shot at blue eggs?
This morning I went to check on the chicks and my biggest BO's voices changed. Seemed more....mature. More clucky, not so peepie. I'm sure this is OK, but just wanted to check.
Here are pictures of my little ones at three weeks! They are very very CUTE!
This is daisy. She was one of the foster chicks we took in. Her brother was the jeffrey dahmer chick. Shes still kinda tramatized, but recovering.
This is BB, shes the bravest

I recently had a situation with a week old chick that seemed demented. It was a recent adoptee. I brough it home with a litter mate. Normal kind of checking out pecking was happening, no big deal. Then this one started obessing on the rest of the chicks eyes. Its hatch buddy was about the same...
Well one of the new chicks we got started trying to pickout all the other chicks eyes. It seemed obsessed. We seperated it, changed the light..nothing worked. Still picking everyones eyes. I new I needed to cull it. And wanted to do it myself. They are my chickens. We didnt have any ether, so...
I just inherited two new chicks. They said they were RIR, black sex link and Silver tips? I dont know what silver tips are. Any ideas on what they might look like when the grow up?

What is this? Is it infant formula? Or is it a vitamin? I've been looking for it as if it was a vitamin, but can't find it. I just want to have it on hand.
Ok, this is seriously a newbie question, but how much time do new chicks spend sleeping?
Mine are eating, drinking, pooping and chasing each other, but they seem to sleep a lot. Not all bunched up like they're cold, but still....
I met a man at Densons feed and seed in Corvallis today. We were picking up chicks! We both ordered Gold Laced Wyndotte and couldnt get them. I just wanted to let him know they have them at Coastal Farm! They came in today and they didnt have too many. You said you read this site, so I thought...
Here are my babies, finally. The buffs and the partridge rocks came from one place, the red sex links didnt come, so I called another farm store and they just got in the Gold Laced Wyndottes that I wanted in the first place! One of them has the umbilical cord, dryed and still attached. That one...
I posted this on the feeding page too..
I bought some electrolytes at the farm store. It said to mix 4 oz with 55 gallons.ahh..I'm getting 6 chicks. So I did the conversion, .07 oz, or 1.9 grams to a gallon, but my scale only did 5 grams. 1 tsp was 5 grams, so I estimated, just under 1/2 tsp...
I purchased some electrolytes from the farm store. 4 oz to 55 gallons. What? So I did the conversion, .07 oz, 1.9 grams to a gallon. So I tried to measure 2 grams on my scale, didn't go that low, so I am estimating that just under 1/2 teaspoon to a gallon is about right? What do you guys think?
I'm disappointed. I wanted 2 goldaced wyndottes and they had a "malfunction" with a brooder and lost all of them....
They have offered me Red Sexlinks instead. But I don't know much about them. What do you think.
