I wanted to have a way to make sure my birds have water all the time in the hot Texas summer and find a way to keep from breaking my back lugging a heavy bucket into the coop. Nifty-Chicken uses the Auto Wata inside his coop and I found one to use in my hoop house. aI'm very happy!
I want to make a roos for my hoop coop. I think that I can take 2X4's and make a ladder to lean up against the back of the coop but I am having a hard time visualzing how to nail the cross boards on so that the birds have the 4" side up to stand on. I could do it easily and have teh 2" side up...
all 5 of my hens have something like this on their combs. My eggs have slacked off to about 2 a day as well. Is this something serious?
If you can't tell I'm talking about the dark spot and the ashy "bloom" on the comb & wattle.
Thanks!
My blue tarp has fallen apart from sun exposure:( I have a silver camping tarp, mush heavier material. Is this stuff more UV strudy? this blue tarp only lasted 6 months.
This is my set up, the nest box is a cat litter bottom. the hens seem to like it well enough but I was wondering if putting the lid on would be better? then it would be darker and more enclosed. It would be more of a PITA to get the eggs out. What do you think?
One of my pullets is laying eggs with blood on them. I can't tell which bird it is. Her first and second egg had dried blood on them when I collected them. Is this a problem?
I'd like to see some pix of your egg doors so I can get some ideas on how to make my egg door. I want to see how you support the egg box if it is out side.
Thanks!
way in the back is my nest box with a plastic egg in it. My birds are about 20 weeks and their combs are getting red so I think something will happen soon.
I'm using an old cat litter box as a nest for my 5 gals. I have a ? tho, I plan to replace the back tarp with a plywood back with a egg...
I have a tractor and I put wood shavings down once a week and chovel the entire thing once a month. But I have FLYS like nobody's buisness!Inside the tractor they aren't so bad, I guess the birds eat them but outside on the ground it is insane! If there is a poop on the ground the flys are all...
I have some old rice I'm about to throw out. I thought I might give it to the chickens if they can eat it raw. I don't see why not, corn & milo are raw. But I thought I saw something about folks using cooked rice. Is raw ok?
Cock-a-doodle -roo had begun to crow and the neighbors didn't like it( I live in the city) so he had to go. I took him to a farm in Mansfield. It only cost a dollar to have him killed, cleaned & bagged. Roast in peace my sweet roo.
My DD did really well (she is 8)with the whole ordeal. I did...
right now I am using an old broom handle as a roost pole.
the girls hop onto it but don't seem to stay very long. Is there something better I should use?
I have a buyer coming tonight to pick up 4 of my Delaware girls and Cock-a-doodle-roo is going to the big farm in the sky on Friday. That will leave me with 5 pullets. I'm sad. But I can only manage the 5 not 10.
It was so easy! First DH & I picked up the coop and moved it off the garden plot.I had put an ad on Craigslist advertizing chicken poop for free, U-Scoop & U can Have and I got a guy who came over and shoveled 4 trash bags of chicken litter up and was happy to have it! Then all I had to do was...
I had the girls out for a bit today and to get them back in the coop I used the rake which is the biggest monster in the world next to the lawn mower. zAll I had to do was wave it around I they bolted for the coop. easy as pie!
Can anyone tell me where i can get organic chicken feed near Dallas? I've looked at the local feed stores and none have an organic option. Thanks
