    Is it choking or what?

I did a search for choke, choked, choking and mostly got stuff like "My DH could have choked me when I came home with more chicks" etc. Anyway, my ISA B's are just over a week old and seem to be doing fine but tonight as I was watching them, one would open her mouth wide like a yawn then shake...

    Coop dilemma, sort of

I am probably the only one on this forum to ever have this happen but I'm 98% finished with my coop and found a design that has numerous benefits over the current one and stays within the same footprint. What to do, what to do? As funding is always an obstacle, I can't simply start a new one...

    Sloppy drinkers?

I am planning on installing a nipple waterer inside my coop. Unless my nipples leak;) is there much chance of having wet bedding under the assembly? Do the birds pretty much get all the water that comes out or is it like my kids drinking out of the garden hose...water everywhere?

    Chicken obsession?

What is up with the "can't stop bringing them home from TSC" syndrome? I read thread after thread of folks getting sucked into farm stores and hatcheries only to bring home 6 more cute fuzzy chicks. Do you remember the commercial some time ago (I think it was Capital One) with David Spade...

    Show me your red coops!

Soon I will be deciding on a color for my coop. The wife wants traditional iron oxide red and I want something more vivid like Rust Oleum "Apple Red". Next time your in the paint aisle look it up...it is the color that I painted my 1/16 scale toy barn and it looks awesome.

    Real estate required?

In my Raising Chickens for Dummies book, it states that chicks only need 6 square inches of space each (I can provide page numbers if needed). If you do the math according to their formula you are safe with 24 chicks per square foot. I might be a little bit of a dummy but I'm not a moron. I...

For those in the neighborhood, there are a couple of yard sheds on Kalamazoo CL that would make nice coops. One is $300 no picture, the other is pretty nice @ $1500 in 3 Rivers.

    Recirculating Droplet (Nipple) watering system

I am planning on fabricating a recirculating system for my coop that is currently under construction and have a question about water quality. Is there something that can be added to the water to inhibit algae growth in this type of system? I would think that keeping the tank in a dark...

    Interior coop wall finish

I did a search for interior walls and didn't really come up with what I'm looking for. The question is, Is it worthwhile from a sanitation standpoint to cover the interior walls of the coop? Here is the lowdown. I have some fiberglass insulation laying around, so I could get rid of it by...

Hi folks, I just signed up today. I am getting a dozen chickens this spring to lay eggs. Coop construction is under way, some supplies purchased and mulling over selecting a suitable breed. I am in SW Michigan and right now am thinking of Barred Plymouth Rocks. I look forward to some...
