Hey guys!
So I am considering getting some peacocks in the Spring, and just wanted a question about weather cleared up. So I live in Idaho, where it can get pretty cold here for about 8 months out of the year, mid to high 20s most of the day, and it can drop below zero sometimes at night...
Hello Everybody!
We have had a huge blizzard roaring all day, with a lot of wind and snow. We went outside to check the animals and found one of our female turkeys outside in the storm! She had ice and snow covering her body, and seemed chilled to the bone. We brought her inside to let her warm...
Its so great to be on again! I haven't been on in FOREVER!
Anyways, I am here to ask a question to my fellow Araucana owners.
I have one 30 week old Araucana, who has been giving me about 6 eggs a week since she started laying. That is, until the weather got cold. She hasn't laid ONE egg in 3...
Hello all!
So with the skyrocketing feed price in my area, I have been trying to give less and less feed, and more and more ranging, and kitchen scraps to my hens this summer, but considering we just had our first freeze last night, I know winter's a-comin, and my hens look a bit too thin for...
For a while there, I thought I had the nicest bunch of hens, really welcoming and kind to new chicks, but I was wrong!!
Me and a friend traded chickens, and what she gave me: a 19 week old Australorp hen. Who is currently getting her tail whipped by my EVIL hens! Also 18-21 weeks old! If It...
Hello guys!
Sorry I've been gone so much! But I have good news! I got a rooster! He is a sweet (yay!), medium sized, 5 month old, Barred Rock! And he needs a name! What do you guys think? Sorry, no pictures! AND I WILL NOT NAME HIM A COMMON HUMAN-NAME i.e, my friend thinks we should name him...
...What am I? My name is Analise, and Mama thinks I'm a barnyard mix, even though when she bought me, the bin said "Arucana". I DON'T LOOK LIKE AN ARUCANA!!!!!!
Oh, yes. And this is my best friend, Roselyn, who is also an 'Arucana'. She is a 9-10 week old pullet.
(Sorry- but we aren't...
Hello!
I am SO DONE with poop in the waterer, so the feed store suggested a nipple waterer. I did my research, and we have a plan for building a waterer from PVC pipes. What I want to know is, will the chickens teach themselves how to use it?
And, if anyone answering this who has a nipple...
I SHOULD KNOW THE ANSWER BY NOW!!!
Anyways, one of my 5 wk old BPR's has very crooked toes! She did not have them as a baby- and as far as i'm aware- not until very recently. I have not been the most observant lately- as my school requires long hours- and I didn't notice until i took my chicks...
When I was a newbie, was confused about things such as what DH and BPR meant. Let's help our newbies by telling them some of the strange abbreviations and words are!
1. Abbreviations like BPR and EE refer to the chicken breed. (Barred Plymouth Rock and Easter Egger)
2. .....
Hello!
I have fallen prey to chicken math . What i want to know is, if I bought a few silkies (2 or 3) from a farm store here, will my EE's, RIR's, and BPR's pick on them because they are smaller?
Today, I got a call from the P.O at 8:00 and my 8:15 I had the chicks in my hands! Every single one was alive and very healthy! I got the small order special from Cackle Hatchery (more than 2,000 miles away!), and I very highly recommed them! 5 RIR's and 5 BPR's! My two EE's look like monsters...
Ok, so answer this question: Since WHEN does the Grocery Store have chicks?? Ah well, two of them 'jumped' into my cart even though I have 10 more coming on Friday! But, here they are: Maxine and Roselyn! I think they are EE's, what do you guys think?
Maxine is the one giving us 'the butt'
