I'm so nervous!! We just had a snake start to swallow one of my ducklings a couple nights ago and now all 14 chicks and 2 ducks are in their coop for the first night. Plus we have tons of raccoons. The run and coop are pretty raccoon and possum free and even though I patched the hole the snake...
Can someone who is good at math figure how many hens it would hold (I would put it inside a run). And how many bantams it would hold.
I have tried it and I am usually good at math but I think my number's are wrong.
BTW: It is the first coop pictured.

Since bantams are half the size of chickens, and only count as 1/2 does that mean they only need half the coop/run space? I would be so happy if it did.
Where do you guys get your DE? I am dead set on not having to pay shipping so that is absolutely last resort. I have tried Lowe's, Home Depot, TSC, and no one has even heard of it. I still have the local co-op, two local feed stores, and a local garden center to check, but I am definitely...
My poor little baby I put my 14 pullets and 2 ducks out today for the second time. The neighbors wanted to go out to dinner at a local burger place and I said ok I'll bring them in when we get back since they are almost 5 wks old and its 82 degrees here. Well we came back about 1 hr ago and...
I keep my 2 ducks with my pullets because I do not have the means to keep them separate. I was wondering if it would be ok if I put a small inground pool (4'x4') in the run if the chickens would leave it alone. I don't want any drowned chickens!
I got 14 pullets from TSC... and they all turned out to be pullets!! A friend of mine wanted a couple roo's and I said ok I would give her the roo's. I didn't get any straight run chicks cause I figured there would be 1 or 2 roo's in my bunch and for once there's not!
Do you need a health certificate for the animals? Belong to the club for the certain breed or type? New to showing (don't even have my birds yet!) and looking for some guidance.
I was wondering how the birds are judged. Normally I show steers and heifers but I am really considering showing Silkies! Ok, so are they judged on general livestock things like:
Depth
Breed Standard
Hair/Feather Coat
Size
Soundness (Is there such a thing in birds?)
Finish
Any help would be great!
I was wondering if anyone has any pics comparing bantams to regular chicks/chickens in size. Preferably with the chicks/chickens in question be the same age or near it. Thanks in advance!
Has anyone used the pelleted bedding? I know it is gaining in popularity. I was wondering if anyone has used it for chicks/chickens. I know it is big enough to where chicks cant eat it (or is it ?), but I was also wondering about when they get larger since some foods are pelleted.
This may sound like a dumb question but does each hen need their own nesting box if they will just be laying ? My chickens are only chicks right now but thinkin ahead!
ETA: The reason I am asking is because on mypetchicken.com is say the Triplex Nesting Box will work for 12-15 chickens.

Golden Comet?? I have quite a few Golden Comets but none with a tail like this.
Mystery This one is slightly smaller than all the others and her feathers have a tousled/windblown look.
And her feathers:
Ok this whole chick thing is hitting me like a freight train! Now I am thinking of getting Bantams to keep more as pets and let my others deal with the egg laying. If it weren't for the fact that from mypetchicken.com my minimum order is 7 for banty chicks I would have an invoice from...
