    The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

A place to post pics and discuss your SLWs. I searched and didn't find another thread specific to SLWs. Here are my first babies. They are supposed to be two hens and a roo.

    Vet experience

I took one of my 2 month old silkies to the vet for an impacted crop. I watched youtube videos on it and wanted to try it myself but was unsure and didn't want to experiment on a live bird. The vet wouldn't let me watch the procedure so the point of the visit was not met for my purposes. He used...

    Whoa the heat!

I keep seeing people posting who live in much better climates than I, that they are losing their flock to the heat. Here is what I do to keep my cheeps cool based on desert living ideas... Put coop under a large tree blocking the blazing rising and setting sun if possible. I checked the...

    Bugs in feed

Drove and hour and a half after calling to check that they had what I needed in stock. Arrived and was told they didn't have any. Then they did but only two bags. A $50 bag of layer ration and a long drive home only to see the 'feed' is nothing but disintegrated powder and is filled with bugs...

Is this how you get chocolate covered chicken?

So it has been a while since I've applied the frontline goo to the dogs. I wanted to see if conditions were good and they wouldn't get fleas. Well they got them, but only after nearly two years. I blame the new roaming neighbor dog. I gave everyone with fur and feathers a dusting with DE last...

    Hatching hopefully today (Updated w/Pics)

I'm hoping to see some pips today. There are two batches two days apart. For some reason my first hatch, the humidity was super low. Now this time I added no water to begin with and humidity stays high. Going into lockdown it was 80. I'm hoping all goes well and I don't have a second broken...

    Blue Wyandotte?

Bought hatching eggs from an ebay seller. He claims these are blue wyandotte. I am guessing buff since he also sells those. They are a lot more yellow to the eye than the picture portrayed. Please ignore her dirty toes. She was eating when I interrupted. Thanks in advance for the input!

    Runt of the litter

I have 2 silkies and 4 wyandottes. One wyandotte arrived nearly two days later with assistance. She's so tiny compared to the others and is slower to get her bearings. She's so cuddly and sweet that we keep holding her all the time. When she's with the others I'm afraid she's getting trampled or...
